Boys soccer defeats West Ottawa by grace montgomery

HUDDLE UP (ABOVE): Varsity soccer gathers shouting "Bucs on three! Bucs on three! One, two three Bucs!" as they prepare to take the field. Their intensity led to the 2-0 win against West Ottawa.

WHAT HAPPENED:

The boys varsity soccer team beat West Ottawa on Tuesday, September 29 in an OK-Red Conference game. The Bucs scored a goal early in the first half, securing a lead. They did not let up and gained one more goal in the the second half, ending the game with a score of 2-0.

GOT HOPS: Junior Luke Thayer leaps up to attack an air ball with his head. He finds a balance between being offensively aggressive and staying calm and composed. Thayer is a leader on the team when it comes to winning headers.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN:

The Bucs win improves their record to 3-2-1 in conference and 3-3-1 overall.

KEY PLAYERS:

  • Senior captain Joey Fischer had a strong offensive game and finished two shots on goal.
  • Senior captain Jack Kurburski saved multiple goal attempts and achieved a shutout.

WHATS NEXT:

The Bucs will take on East Kentwood at home on Thursday, October 1. The game will begin at 7:15.

THEY SAID IT:

"I think we did pretty good," Fischer said. "We started off the game pretty good. I scored. In the middle of the first half our intensity went down a little bit. Then, second half, we came out and it started picking up. Pretty good game, could've been better."

"We're just gonna keep working on our defense, giving the ball to our offense, keeping possession in their half, playing the right passes, and getting chances," Fischer said.
