Women's Bean Project Spring 2023 E-Newsletter

FROM THE CEO

Greetings friends!

We are approaching one year in the new building and settling into its idiosyncrasies, or should I say unique features? This summer we will have another open house to celebrate the anniversary of our move. If you have not had the opportunity to visit, please do!

The new facility has created the opportunity to plan for the next chapter of the Bean Project. As we imagine our future and what the building makes possible, we are thinking about how we might expand our food manufacturing business to generate more sales, how we could do production work and fulfillment for other companies to create more jobs and how we might leverage what we know about the psychosocial barriers to employment by providing training and support services to people in addition to those we employ. All of these ideas will be a part of the strategic plan currently under development.

As part of this process, we have updated our Guiding Principles, Mission and Vision Statements to better reflect the organization we are today as well as our aspirations for what we wish to become. The women in our community deserve to be served by an organization that stays current with their needs and aspirations. While I hope someday our services are no longer necessary, in the meantime, we will continue to meet women where they are in their journeys and walk beside them to lift them up to become the women, mothers and community members they were meant to be.

Thank you for joining us,

Tamra Ryan

TRANSFORMATION IN MOTION

READY, SET, GROW 2023

First and foremost, thank you for your overwhelming support! It was so exciting to see all of you again, in-person and virtually. We were pleased to see many of our graduates in person this year, and to see your overwhelming support for our future graduates.

Here’s what YOU made happen!

  • Total Goal: $286,800
  • Currently: $301,824 and counting… THANK YOU!

We have several employer matches yet to be received and donations are still coming in. Matching is a great way to double your gift! Ask your employer if they offer gift matching. What a great success. You have helped provide program services for 45 participants, which in turn will have endless impact on each woman, her family, and our community. As we grow into 1300 W Alameda Avenue and continue to hire more women, your support will help ensure the success of each participant as the program expands and nurtures their journey.

Please let us know how you would like to further engage with Women’s Bean Project by contacting Luanne Hill, Development Director

OUR NEW PILLARS OF OPERATION

MISSION STATEMENT:

Women’s Bean Project is a social enterprise that supports women striving to create lasting change in their lives by establishing steppingstones to self-sufficiency.

VISION:

We believe all women have the power to transform their lives through employment. We envision a day when barriers to employment are eliminated, when employers hire based on talent and potential rather than background, when all women who want a second chance can come to the Bean Project and find the community, support, and confidence needed to improve the future for themselves, their famillilies and the community.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES:

GOLFING FOR GOOD

TRAVELERS CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT

We are grateful to be the beneficiary of the 6th annual Traveler’s Southwest Region Charity Golf Tournament hosted by The Ridge at Castle Pines on June 22, 2023. This event will be invitation only, but donations are open to the public. The tournament will feature a silent auction, giveaways, and gorgeous sweeping views of this renowned course.

CREATING COMMUNITY

Participant Acts of Kindness

One of the most important aspects of work at WBP is creating community. When a woman leaves behind substance use, homelessness, or criminal behavior, she is often leaving behind the only community she has ever known. It is essential that we create a welcoming atmosphere that allows her to create a new, sober, and safe community here at WBP. Our current participants have shown exceptional initiative in supporting each other on their journeys.

Thank you to:

  • Lucy, for setting up a carpool to ensure other participants can get to work on time.
  • Anita, Denise, and 2023 graduate Tameka for providing meals, house-cleaning, and friendly company to 2023 graduate Katy after major surgery.
  • Ranita, for achieving her four month sober anniversary and advocating for LGBTQ+ participants.

YOU ROCK!

BEAN PROFILES

Mark Mesaros, Volunteer

Mark Mesaros was brought on to Women’s Bean Project in March, 2023 as part of the SERSCEP program. SERSCEP (Service, Employment, and Redevelopment Senior Community Service Program) provides subsidized, service-based training for older adults 55+ at nonprofits across that US.

Over the last couple of months, Mark has become a beneficial member of the Bean Staff. He is the first friendly face to greet everyone walking into the Bean, and helps with administrative tasks for Development, Marketing, and Office Administration. He provides thoughtful and excellent customer service to every guest who purchases items from the retail store. Mark jumps into action to help with any task no matter the size, and has provided a supportive hand to WBP while sharing his passion for helping others. WBP is grateful to have Mark part of our team. Thank you, Mark!
