Encourage each other and build each other up
1 Thessalonians 5:11
Nurturing the infinite worth of every person through love, respect, perseverance, honesty and forgiveness
Message from the Head...
Another wonderful week at Isham! This week the children have been rather busy completing assessments and we are so proud of their perseverance. A big well done to all the children. Data reports will be sent out later in the term.
This week the children in Year 5/6 have received training from Pacesetters to be Young Leaders in the playground to help support positive play and encourage children to be more active.
To complete the week, we were graced with the presence of snow which the children loved being able to play in! I wonder what the weather will be like next week!
Encourage each other and build each other up. 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Reporting your child's absence
Please do not email your child's teacher to report an absence. All absences need to be phoned to the school office which is open from 8.30am. We are looking into updating our system with a voicemail system if you ring in earlier! We'll keep you posted when we get this system in place.
Doctor's/Dentist Appointments - We are now required to see evidence of all medical appointments, this can be a text message, email or letter.
Lateness - If you are late dropping your child off to school, please make sure they are safely handed over onto the school premises - please do not leave them to walk down the road and through the gate unattended.
Attendance
Poor punctuality can lead to your child…
- Feeling embarrassed in front of their friends
- Missing the beginning of vital lessons making them fall behind
- Missing important instructions for the rest of the school day
- Learning bad habits which could affect their employability in the future.
Please work with us to provide your child with the best chances of learning by ensuring that they are in school every day and on time
Attendance at Isham CE Primary School
6th - 10th March 2023
Parents/Carers with any Concerns - Please phone to make an appointment
We urge parents/carers with any concerns regarding the provision made for their child to speak to the school as soon as possible and, in the first instance, to the class teacher by making an appointment through the school office, (parents cannot 'drop in' to speak to a teacher or Headteacher). If parents / carers feel their child's needs are still not being met they should make an appointment to see the Headteacher. If concerns are still unresolved parents / carers may wish to engage with PDET’s Complaints policy procedures.

Our Safeguarding Vision
Isham CE Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children. Our school has a child centred and co-ordinated approach to safeguarding. Consequently, safeguarding and child protection is at the forefront of everything we do. We ensure systems are in place that are well promoted, easily understood and easily accessible for children to confidently report any form of abuse or neglect, knowing their concerns will be treated seriously, and knowing they can safely express their views and give feedback.
Our Designated Safeguarding Leads
If you believe that a child in our school may be at risk, please talk to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or one of the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads. These are:
Miss Alexandra Price (Headteacher and Lead DSL) - a.price@isham.pdet.org.uk
Mrs Helen Hughes (Deputy Safeguarding Lead) - h.hughes@isham.pdet.org.uk
If you are worried about a child outside of school time, you can call the local Multi Agency Support Hub (MASH) for advice (anonymously if needs be) on 0300 126 7000 (option 1).
Wellbeing
Mandalas
Working with natural objects has a multitude of benefits for kids. Creating mandalas in nature teaches the children arithmetics, geometry, art, science and more. Mandala is an ancient Sanskrit word meaning “circle.” Mandala is a simple geometric shape that has no beginning or end. The beauty of mandala is in its pattern. The more orderly the pattern is, the artsier your mandala looks.
You can see this geometric shape of a mandala in all aspects of life. Order is found in science, math and all aspects of creation. The sun in the sky, the nucleus of the cells in your body, the snowflakes all reflect the geometric patterned principles of the mandala. Within its circular shape, mandala apparently has the power to promote relaxation and balance the body’s energies
Wellbeing Activities and Ideas for Parents
- Mindful breathing can be a good place to start regulating and recognising breathing patterns. Mindful breathing and colour activities can help slow down the pace of the day and enjoy some reflection time.
- Going out for a walk is a great way to reset and enjoy nature. Why not try a sound walk together and let the sounds of nature give your walk a purpose?
- Use Daily Reflection Journal Pages to help learn how to reflect on a days activities.
- Interaction: Children need to connect, so build connections with people around you. Stay in touch with family and friends in person or via video chat.
- Energy: Children need to be active, so help boost your energy and mood by doing something active.
- Mindfulness: Children need to take notice so encourage curiosity about the world and savour the moment.
- Discovery: It's important to keep learning, so learn something new to boost confidence. Consider taking virtual tours - for example, check out the animal cameras at places like the Edinburgh Zoo. Kids can use this to then create their own animal portraits.
- Be Creative: Find time to paint, make, sing or dance on your own or with another person.

Music Assembly - Thursday 23rd March at 9am
Due to the success of the last music assemblies, I will be hosting another music assembly to celebrate the talented musicians we have at Isham!
As with the previous one's held, if your child is learning to play a musical instrument through regular lessons either in or out of school (this includes children who receive singing lessons) and has a prepared piece (maybe two!) that they would like to perform on Thursday 23rd March, please email the school office: office@isham.pdet.org.uk with the name of your child and the instrument by 10th March. This will then allow me to compile a running order for this assembly.
Parents of those children who are performing are also invited to attend, please confirm in an email to the school office if you would like to attend.
Thanks as always for your support with your children’s musical endeavors,
Mr Hole
National Online Safety release a weekly guide, #Wake up Wednesday and aim to cover all major social media platforms, apps and issues that children encounter online. This aims to help empower parents with the knowledge to protect their children from the dangers of the internet.
Technology changes at such a rapid pace that it can be hard to keep up with the latest trends. The resources below are an invaluable way of making sure you know as much as your children. You are the first line of defence in keeping your children safe online – our aim is to encourage and support you to become involved in this process so that they are receiving the best protection they can – you can’t eliminate the dangers but you can reduce them!

You will have received home a letter about the Sponsored Bounce and a sponsorship form. This years sponsored event will be taking place on Tuesday the 21st of March. As explained in the letter, all children will be challenged to see how many bounces they can do on the bouncy castle in one minute. Please ask friends and family to sponsor your child and remember to send the sponsorship form into school on the day so our FOIS volunteers can record how many bounces you child has achieved. I would like to thank Jumpin Jax who have loaned us the bouncy castle free of charge for the whole day so your children will get some free time to bounce after the event. Please could all children come to school in PE kit for the day. All sponsorship money needs returning by the 30th March, see letter for methods of payment.

Reflection Time...
Continuing with the school value of Honesty, the children looked at two stories from the Old Testament in the Bible: Samson and Delilah and Samson and the Philistines. From the first story, the children learnt that God does not judge but forgives and the second story shows how he had faith in God's words and through his actions, Samson protected the people. Reverend Denise also visited us and looked at Proverbs 10.32: The lips of the righteous know what finds favour, but the mouth of the wicked only what is perverse, and 15.23: A person finds joy in giving an apt reply— and how good is a timely word! The key message from the proverbs: Just as the doctor chooses medicine carefully, the right medicine for the right complaint, so it is important that words are carefully chosen. The right word can heal like medicine. Christians ask God for help to know the right things to say. Read the proverbs.
Thank you, Lord, for the blessings you have bestowed on my life. You have provided me with more than I could ever have imagined. You have surrounded me with people who always look out for me. You have given me family and friends who bless me every day with kind words and actions. Amen
Collective Worship Songs
During collective worship, the children have been singing 'Power in Me', 'Ask, Seek, Knock' and 'Try Everything'.
