L.A.'s Weather Essentials By Jazmine valerio

The weather in Los Angeles is by far, very unpredictable. On some days, the weather forecast says that the temperatures will drop but the next, there is a heat advisory. Many people are very confused about what to wear. But never fear, here is a list of L.A’s weather essentials to navigate this unpredictable weather.

Locker or Backpack Essentials

The first essential is a light sweater that will keep you warm on a day when there is a slight breeze. Make sure that this sweater has a hoodie though, in case it rains. Keep this sweater in your locker in case you come to school when it’s very hot, but ends up cooling down dramatically by 11 am. Make sure that the sweater is the kind that works with almost every outfit, so aesthetics won’t be of concern.

The second weather essential is an umbrella. An umbrella doesn’t have to be industrial and expensive. Walmart has umbrellas that cost under $25. Along with your sweater, make sure to keep your umbrella in your locker as well. Make sure that your umbrella is foldable or small to fit in your locker since some umbrellas can be very large. An umbrella with an eye-catching design could bring your outfit to life too.

The third weather essential for surviving L.A.’s weather is a pair of sunglasses. Sunglasses not only look fashionable on a sunny day but can also protect your eyes from the sun. Some sunglasses can offer better protection from the sun, so research to see which style of frame, lens, and protection match your style and budget.

A fourth essential is a baseball cap or any type of hat. On a sunny, hot day, a baseball cap could shield your eyes from the sun. A baseball cap not only shields your eyes but also gives off a laid-back style vibe. If you want to show off your favorite sports team, get a baseball cap with the team logo on it. If you don’t like baseball caps, that is fine. You can either wear a bucket hat, a fedora or a sun hat. In the winter, you may want to switch a sun hat to a beanie to keep your head warm.

With all of these locker or backpack essentials, there are different ways to have them on stand by. You can, like mentioned, keep them in your locker or you can thrift a cute backpack to keep all of these items with you at all times when on the go.

Closet Essentials

The first closet essentials are a pair of shorts, pants and capris. L.A.’s weather is very unpredictable. One day it could be a 100 degrees, while the next it could be 50 degrees. It’s always best to keep a pair of shorts and a pair of long-legged pants in your wardrobe. If you can’t decide which to wear, just wear a pair of capris. A capri is a pair of pants that go to a little below the knee. Wearing a pair of these will keep you at the perfect temperature.

The second closet essentials are tank tops, long-sleeved shirts and T-shirts. Like your pants or shorts, you need to have a few pairs to be prepared for L.A.’s weather. Tank tops are mostly for the summer, while long-sleeved shirts are for the winter. But, T-shirts can be worn any time of year.

The final closet essential is the right pair of shoes, which include sneakers and sandals. On hot, summer days, wearing a pair of sandals will feel refreshing and cooler. Wearing sneakers is like wearing a T-shirt, in the sense that it can be worn in any type of weather. A pair of sneakers in your wardrobe will automatically pull together any outfit.
