VOLLEYBALL
  • Senior Mason Rooney was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference and All-Academic teams and was among the nation's leaders with five triple-doubles.
  • Rooney and classmate Ciera Cockrell each garnered A-10 Player of the Week recognition throughout the season.
  • The Wildcats won five straight matches in October for the program's longest win streak since 2004.
FOOTBALL
  • The Wildcats finished 6-5 for their first winning season since 2007 and led the NCAA FCS in total yards (547.5) and rushing yards (428.5), both FCS records. They shattered numerous program records including points scored (494), total offense (6,134 yards) and rushing TD's (55).
  • Three ‘Cats were named to HERO Sports All-America Teams including sophomore first team running back Wesley Dugger and All-Freshman team honoree Dreylan Hines.
  • Dugger was named to the Pioneer Football League All-Conference first team, while Hines was named the PFL Co-Defensive Freshman of the Year.
  • Offensive lineman Ethan Steinbacher, running back James Story and defensive end Bryce Perry-Martin earned All-PFL second team accolades. Fifty Wildcats earned PFL Academic Honor Roll recognition.
  • Set an NCAA (all divisions) single-game rushing record with 789 yards on the ground in a thrilling game at PFL Champion, San Diego. Led by Dugger’s 231 yards, Davidson set the mark for most 150-yard rushers in a game with four.
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
  • Senior Caroline Yarbrough earned Atlantic 10 All-Conference honors for the fourth time in as many tries with her seventh place finish at the A-10 Championship.
  • Yarbrough was named to the A-10 and the USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams, while the team earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors - holding a 3.57 team GPA.
  • The 'Cats won the Royals XC Challenge led by Yarbrough's third-place result.
  • Seven of the nine Wildcats that competed at the A-10 Championship will return in 2019, including three scorers.
MEN'S SOCCER
  • Davidson's second-place finish was the highest since joining the Atlantic 10 in 2014 - the 'Cats went 9-7-2 overall and 5-2-1 in A-10 play.
  • Senior Jordan Hill landed on the A-10 All-Conference first team, while junior Jaylen Thompson made second team honors. Henry Howell garnered All-Rookie Team recognition.
  • On January 17, 2019, Mike Babst was named the seventh head coach in program history after Matt Spear '93 stepped away to become president of the Richmond Kickers.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
  • Senior Natalie Connell was awarded a prestigious 2019 Watson Fellowship.
  • Connell also earned a spot on the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team.
  • Senior Mia Hodges was given the Davidson Athletics Community Involvement Award.
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
  • Following senior Dylan Carmack's lead, the final four scorers for the 'Cats at the Atlantic 10 Championship were freshmen.
  • Davidson garnered USTFCCCA All-Academic Team recognition, boasting a team GPA of 3.07.
  • The future is bright for the program as two runners were tabbed A-10 Rookie of the Week recipients. Coleman Mitchell earned the nod for his fifth-place finish at the Spider Alumni Open, while Trent Turbyfill received recognition for his high placement at the Royals XC Challenge.
FIELD HOCKEY
  • Freshman Julia Smith earned Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team honors.
  • Senior Leigha Nortier posted a hat trick against LIU Brooklyn in a September contest at Belk Turf Field.
  • In October, the team ran in a Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation 5k in Charlotte in honor of senior Kate Singletary's father.
  • On March 12, 2019, Zoe Almquist was named the ninth head coach in program history after Ginny Turner stepped away from the squad after 14 seasons with the team.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
  • Had the best finish in the Atlantic 10 with a tie for fourth place at 10-6 and won the program's first-ever game in the league championship with a home victory over St. Bonaventure in the opening round.
  • Made the postseason for the first time since the 2012-13 campaign with an invite into the WBI.
  • Sophomore forward Sarah Donovan was tabbed the A-10's Most Improved Player and landed on the All-Conference second team.
  • Senior guard Justine Lyon was named the A-10 Sixth Woman of the Year and to the All-Conference third team, while sophomore point guard Katie Turner also earned a spot on the third team.
  • Davidson set a new record for most three-pointers made in a season with 216.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
  • Davidson finished 24-10 overall and 14-4 in Atlantic 10 action to earn the conference's second seed in the 2019 Championship and advanced to the postseason for the 23rd time in program history and 17th under head coach Bob McKillop.
  • The Wildcats hosted a postseason NIT contest for the first time in school history.
  • Junior Jon Axel Gudmundsson was named the A-10 Player of the Year, helping him land a spot as an AP Honorable Mention All-American.
  • Gudmundsson was joined on the A-10 All-Conference first team with backcourt mate Kellan Grady.
  • The first player in school history with 1,000 career points, 500 rebounds and 400 assists, Gudmundsson recorded the program's first triple-double in 46 years with a 20-point, 10-rebound, 10-assist performance at Rhode Island on Feb. 22.
WRESTLING
  • Senior Tony Palumbo placed second in the 157 pound weight class at the Southern Conference Championship.
  • Wildcat rookies Kyle Gorant and Mitchell Trigg were selected to the SoCon All-Freshman Team. Gorant finished 17-12 with six falls, while Trigg posted a 14-13 mark that included top honors in the Freshman/Sophomore Division at the Southeast Open.
  • Four 'Cats advanced to the SoCon Championship second round, the most since Davidson advanced three in 2015.
  • Davidson made it back-to-back years as a NWCA Division I Scholar All-America Team, ranking 27th overall, while eight grapplers were named to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll.
WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING
  • At the Atlantic 10 Championships, sophomore Sarah Helen Shepherd shattered program records in both the 200 and 400-yard individual medley events, and tied the 200 backstroke mark
  • Junior Isabella McElrath earned two A-10 Performer of the Week honors.
  • Freshmen Hannah Gould and Hope Carpenter were each named A-10 Rookie of the Week throughout the campaign.
MEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING
  • Freshman Thacher Scannell was recognized as the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week five times and finished the season as Davidson’s record holder in the 1000 and 1650-yard freestyles.
  • Junior Crossan Cooper was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic team and was a two-time Performer of the Week honoree.
  • Scannell, Cooper, Brian Hynes and Walt Dauksher combined to set the program record in the 800-yard freestyle relay, earning the silver medal at the A-10 Championship.
  • Davidson placed four swimmers in the "A finals" of the 200 freestyle at the A-10 Championships.
WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
  • Senior Caroline Yarbrough won her fourth career Atlantic 10 individual title in the outdoor 10,000m and finished her stellar career with 123 total championship points earned. She also competed in her second straight NCAA East Regional in the 10k.
  • Yarbrough was named to both the A-10 indoor and outdoor All-Academic teams, while sophomore Eleni Daughters joined her on the outdoor squad. Yarbrough also made her second straight appearance on the Google Cloud Academic All-Region and USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams.
  • Hazel Tankard was named to both the indoor and outdoor A-10 All-Rookie teams for her efforts in the pentathlon and heptathlon, while classmate Anna Davis landed on the outdoor squad in the 400m hurdles.
  • In all, the 'Cats reset 14 program records in 2018-19 - 8 indoor, 6 outdoor.
MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
  • Senior Jacob Hostetler earned a pair of silver medals in record-setting fashion at the A-10 Indoor Championship in the 200m (21.91) and 400m (48.51).
  • In all, six indoor records fell, while two were lowered once the 'Cats went outdoors.
  • Sophomore Daniel Alvarez earned his first All-Conference honors in the 800m at the conference outdoor championship.
  • Davidson garnered USTFCCCA All-Academic team honors.
  • The future is bright for the program as of the 20 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship competitors for the 'Cats, only four were upperclassmen, three of them seniors.
GOLF
  • Finished with a program-record 288.09 stroke average and eight Top-Five finishes, including a pair of team wins.
  • Five members of the program earned Atlantic 10 Postseason accolades; senior Jack Lang (Player of the Year), Viraj Garewal (Rookie of the Year), Tim Straub (Coach of the Year), senior Hoke Carlton (All-Conference) and sophomore Alex Ross (All-Conference).
  • Lang qualified for the NCAA Regional as an individual, making him the third player in school history to compete in postseason competition on three occasions. He set the school record for Top-Five finishes with 13.
  • Sophomore Alex Ross fired a 15-under 57 in the third round of the Dogwood Invitational at Druid Hill Golf Club in Atlanta to match the lowest score in a competitive round in golf history.
  • Thanks to a generous gift from Steve and Jennifer MacMillan, Golf will become the first fully endowed Division I scholarship program.
LACROSSE
  • Had the best start in program history by their winning first six games to open the season.
  • Freshmen Braeden Dial and Gianna New were each selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team.
  • Sophomore Natalie Junior was named to the All-Conference second team.
  • For the third consecutive season, senior Sarah Kopp was voted to the A-10 All-Academic team.
  • Senior Sophia Sgroi set a single-season record for draw controls with 110, which ranked second in the league this season.
MEN'S TENNIS
  • Reached double-digit wins for the fifth consecutive season, finishing 13-9.
  • Advanced to the Atlantic 10 Championship semifinals for the second straight year.
  • Junior Axel Fries was selected to the A-10 All-Conference first team, while freshman Sam Kavarana and sophomore Yash Parikh earned second team recognition.
  • Kavarana was named the league's Rookie of the Week on three occasions.
WOMEN'S TENNIS
  • Reached double-digits in wins for the fifth straight season, finishing 14-11.
  • Advanced to the Atlantic 10 Championship semifinal for the second time since joining the league in 2014-15.
  • Senior Gabrielle Centenari and Alexandra Abele were both tabbed second team All-Atlantic 10.
  • Abele also earned a spot on the A-10 All-Academic Team.
  • Elizabeth Truluck was twice named an A-10 Rookie of the Week.
BASEBALL
  • Davidson won 29 games, giving the Class of 2019 125 wins, the most of any class in program history.
  • The 'Cats finished second in the regular season and reached the Atlantic 10 Championship for the fifth time in as many years.
  • Senior Casey Sutherland earned A-10 All-Conference, All-Academic and All-Championship team honors and was among the nation's best in strikeout-to-walk ratio walks per nine innings.
  • Freshman Gabe Levy earned A-10 All-Rookie team honors, finishing with 11 saves, the second-most by a freshman in the country.
  • Senior Justin Lebek was selected to the A-10 All-Conference second team, while classmate Eric Jones earned All-Championship recognition.
  • Sophomore Ruben Fontes led the A-10 with 14 home runs.

The 2018-19 year saw many updates and renovations throughout the athletic fields and complexes to enhance fan experience and benefit our current and future scholar-athletes!

The football offices got a facelift thanks to Mike Sheridan '80 and Pat Sheridan '81! The "Sheridan Brothers Suite" includes updated coaches offices and new branding and flooring throughout the football wing of Baker Sports Complex!

Belk Arena saw improvements to the lighting system, added Above the Rim to the concourse and gave fans access to free WiFi! The 2018-19 men's basketball team also posted the most home sellouts since the 2008-09 campaign!

The Coach Cooke Clubhouse was renovated during the summer of 2018!

The 2017 Baseball Super Regional squad is now cemented in the Nisbet Hall of Fame in the Vance Center with a brand new showcase!

Heading into the 2019 campaign, DCFH fans will be treated with a new scoreboard at Carol Grotnes Belk Turf Field! Installed to the right of the press box and across from the stands, the new board will help enhance the fan experience!

The water cannon system was also modified at the end of the spring.

Watson Fellows

Seniors Kyla Roland (left) of the women's basketball team and Natalie Connell of women's soccer were awarded the prestigious Thomas J. Watson Fellowship as part of the 51st class! The scholar-athletes were among 40 fellows chosen from six countries and 18 states.

  • Nine teams were recognized by the NCAA APR Public Recognition Awards. The NCAA annually honors teams earning multiyear Academic Progress Rates in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport.
The 2019 aCATemy Awards
Caroline Yarbrough of women's cross country/track & field and Jon Axel Gudmundsson of men's basketball were named the Female and Male Athletes of the Year at the 3rd Annual aCATemy Awards! For a full list of winners click the link below.
Yarbrough received the Rebecca A. Stimson Award given to the most outstanding female senior!
The Tommy Peters Award, given to the most outstanding male senior, went to Golf's Jack Lang!
