Scheeler Family Update

PAUL

Paul graduated from University of Dayton with a BS in computer engineering. He was then commissioned into the United States Air Force. He continues the military tradition on both sides, but especially of his grandfather who was a Lieutenant General (3-star). I had the honor of being his first salute! Paul is also having his first book published!! Not just an ebook, but like a real book!

CATHERINE

Catherine is finishing her first semester at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix as a business major. She is meeting many new friends and thriving. We don’t like her being so far away, but are proud of how she is handling it.

MARY

We were able to honor Mary with a fundraiser for a playground and park for those with disabilities. Thanks to the generosity of many, including many of you, we were able to raise a total of $250k. The park district wanted to honor Mary’s memory with a statue. Ellie did an amazing job working with the artist to get the likeness of her perfect. We also wanted to honor Mary’s namesake, Mother Mary. She has been a great comfort to us during this heart wrenching time as she knows exactly what it is like to lose an innocent child.

BERNADETTE

Bernadette is a Junior at Royalmont Catholic School. She is doing well and is especially into volleyball and has the goal to get an athletic scholarship for college. She also has significant writing abilities that we hope she will continue to develop.

BRIDGET

Bridget is also at Royalmont, as a Freshman. She has matured out of being a pre-teen and has become a pleasure to spend time with. She has amazing musical talent, especially with regards to singing. She is also passionate about volleyball.

JOHN

John is turning 9 early next year and growing up fast. He is at Royalmont and was in one of his first plays last week. He had actual lines and everything. He is definitely the baby and we all love playing with him – most of the time!

ELLIE

Ellie – This has been an especially tough few years for Ellie. Not just the loss of Mary, but she also lost both her parents. They made an amazing couple and had such a great run together – raising 5 children, obtaining the top of a profession and surviving the loss of their youngest child. At the same time, Ellie continues to grow and improve and be an amazing mother and wife. In many ways, I would not have survived without her.

RICK

Just over two years ago, I felt the need to move my wealth management practice to become independent. There were many reasons for this, but at the end of the day, I wanted a bigger environment to try out my ideas and a better platform to serve my clients.

It was a challenging transition as it was close to the loss of Mary and right before the COVID downturn. Ellie was an invaluable partner. I don’t know how she held up during all these pressures – just amazing. I also finished my Master’s Degree in financial planning last summer. I eventually hit a brick wall and had to slow way down. I think my response to grief was to stay hyperactive, but that can only last so long. I eventually had to surrender to God and feel the pain process through me.

At the same time, I’m pleased that in the last two years we were able to double in size and build out a fantastic team – There are now 6 of us and we are on the verge of hiring again. We also put together an outside board of advisors to help gain a greater perspective and position for the next phase of growth.

We recently purchased some land very close to our home which has been helpful in decompressing, thinking and processing all that we have been through.

MOM (Diana Scheeler)

She loves her new place and is making so many friends. She especially likes having daily mass on site. She also loves spending time in the presence of the blessed sacrament. I thought you would like to see some pictures. Transitioning a parent can be an emotionally difficult time. We are fortunate that mom chose to do it on her own and is doing well. Every time we talk she thanks me for helping her do it and tells me how much she loves it. Below is a picture from Thanksgiving. We were saddened that Carl’s family was unable to join us.

While 2021 provided many challenges and stressors, there were also so many blessings. 2022 is sure to be full of surprises and blessings, but we are looking forward to what it will bring. Turning the year is always a fresh chance to improve and get better.
