Volleyball Opens Season 4-0 for First Time Since 2012
Colby opened their season on the road with a 3-1 victory over Saint Joseph's College before returning to Mayflower Hill to host the Colby Classic, a five-team tournament.
The Mules won in straight sets against Maine Maritime on Friday and UMaine Presque Isle on Saturday. In their final match of the tournament Colby pushed past a strong Gordon College team to win 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 25-18, 25-18).
Field Hockey Tops UMF 5-1
With ten out of the 11 starters playing in their first collegiate game, the young Mules celebrated a victory in the opening game of the season over the University of Maine at Farmington.
Sophomore Lillian Kistner played a part in each of the five goals, assisting three and scoring two of her own. Also tallying goals on the night were Sandrine Brien, Megan Rittenhouse, and Pernilla Shaw.
Men's and Women's Cross Country Host CBB at Quarry Road
The Cross Country teams hosted Bates and Bowdoin for the opening event of the season at nearby Quarry Road. The Women's 3.9k race was split up into two heats, as was the Men's 6.1k race.
First year Claire Beebe won her heat in 15:11, followed closely by Lindsay Michels '25 in 15:22. Beebe and Michels placed 3rd and 7th across both heats respectively, with junior Megan Garret finishing in 10th.
For the men, All-American Tyler Morris '23 finished top in his heat, and also put in the fastest time of the day in 18:50. Ben Mellor placed 5th (20:13) and first-years Keegan Gleason and James Boyle finished just outside the top-10 with times of 20:22 and 20:25 respectively.
Women's Soccer Defeats Husson 3-0
The Colby Women's Soccer team opened the 2021 season on the road in Bangor to take on Husson University. With first-half goals from three different scorers (Alessandra Marciano '22, Kerrie Verbeek '23, and Chloe Schiff '23), the Mules returned home triumphant. Sophomore Corrigan Rayhill assisted the second score, collecting her first collegiate point of her career.
Men's Soccer Battled to the Final Minute, Fell in 2OT
Colby traveled across town to open their season against Thomas College. Any time the two neighbors collide, the game play is aggressive and spirited, and this opener followed suit.
Colby took the lead early in the second half when Ethan Franco '24 collected the ball at the Thomas end, beat the final defender, and slipped past the goalie to put the Mules on top. Control remained with Colby until the final minute when Thomas tallied the equalizer with under two minutes to play. With both teams playing even through extra frames, Thomas went the length of the field with 22 seconds on the clock to score the game winner.
Women's Tennis Challenged Bates, Bowdoin, Brandeis, and Trinity at Wallach Invitational
The Fed Cup style event was a fun format for the athletes and allowed for each athlete to compete. Those who scored the most points in their heat advanced in the draw. All American Carly Levitz and first year Reimi Kusaka advanced to the finals of their flight in the first day.

Colby Golf Competes in Middlebury
The Colby Golf team traveled to Middlebury College to take part in the 37th Annual Duke Nelson Invitational, a 23-team two-day tournament. Over 100 athletes competed, with each team entering five.
Nolan Burke finished the first day of competition in 19th place after opening with a round of 75. Day two saw the senior slide back several places after shooting 83 on the round, but he still finished as the top Colby player. Fellow senior Evan Burstein put in the top performance for the Mules on Sunday, shooting a 76.

Beginning with the fall of 2021, Colby Athletics has moved from print to DIGITAL GAMEDAY PROGRAMS for all home events. Fans can see all of the information commonly found in print at events with a simple scan of their phone. Look for these posters (left) hanging at all our venues.
