This project is about getting to know and understand my dad better. Since I was young I never had that much of a bond with my father like I had with my mother. Through this project I would like to get a better understanding of who he is as a person as well as to see and show the things he likes to do. I want to depict my photos in an expressive, sentimental way with some muted colors. I’ve always known my dad as a serious man who was focused and set on things he wants to achieve. But, I’ve also known him as a dad who cracks a smile and erupts in laughter at a joke and a person who loves spending quality time with family. I know him to be a person who likes helping others, especially the people in his family or those who he’s close to. From this project, I got to learn some more information about who he is and what he likes to do. I can say that this project gave me new memories with my dad that I can cherish as I get older.
"Flower Tree" this photo shows my dad's green thumb and fascination with nature and its colors. Since I was younger, I've always seen him either planting and taking care of plants or just admiring them from a far. And so this picture captures what he finds most pleasing in life.
"Frangrance" My dad has always been drawn to perfumes, colognes, or anything that has a nice smell to it. He has a collection of fragrances that he uses for everyday use or special ones that he uses only on special occasions. But, either way, I've grown up with him and his cologne collection.
"Taking a Ride" Sometimes people have to have a relaxing time before going to a special event. Instead of taking the hectic transportation of the city.
"Walking to Church" My father has always had God in his life. But now, he has built a closer connection with God and has been able to grow his faith.
"Confirmation" My father has always been there for his family no matter what the case may be. In this case, he's confirming his goddaughter.
"Food Pantry" My father loves to help others in his family but also in his community. In my apartment complex, there was a food drive that was done to help the tenants living in the apartments. My dad was told if he wanted to help and gladly participated.
"Enjoying a Meal" my father loves to cook, but he also loves to eat :).
"Looking Cool" My father loves fashion and he likes modeling. He has always dressed to be stylish or comfortable.

"Park Relaxation" My father has always enjoyed being in nature and enjoying the sun and warm weather. Back home in his home country of the Dominican Republic, since he was young he's always been outside exploring, working, or enjoying the country. And now that he's lived in the big city of New York for most of his life he had even more to explore.
My name is Jeslyn Escano, I'm 15 years old and attend a Catholic school on the Upper East Side of Manhattan called St. Jean Baptiste High school. I've had an interest in photography since 2019 when I got to explore the city more with my friends and family. But due to the pandemic, my adventures were cut short, so I started taking pictures at home either for school or for fun. I remember that I was always a creative child that was drawn to the arts. And though these years photography has really grown on to me. But especially now that I've experienced the NYU Tisch Photography program. Finally, I'm getting to see life as something I want to capture, and something that I would want to have as a remembrance of a moment in time. I hope that I can continue taking pictures and expand my intellect in photography and the world around me.
