Woodburytype Megan Galloway

What is Woodburytype ?

A Woodburytype was one of the first photo-mechanical process that was able to reproduce the halftones of photographs. The images didn't rely on light sensitive materials so therefore did not fade.

Who invented the process?

The Woodburytype was invented by two British men; Walter Bentley Woodbury and Joseph Wilson Swan. The process was granted by the government in 1864, then published in 1865.

Visual examples of finished prints.

I have inserted some examples of Woodburytype.

A short video that explains the process.

When I was doing my research I came across this video on youtube that I felt was very useful.
