The Harvel’s Wedding portrait

Such a sweet wedding portrait of William Richard Harvel and his lovely bride, Audrey Winona Mitchell. They are the parents of my brother-in-law, Gary Harvel who graciously provided me with this photograph, lovingly recreated as a Thankful Generations WWII Beaded Tapestry.

Great beginnings - loom, thread, needle, beads, pen, pattern, scissors and patience

My brother-in-law, Gary, reflects on his father’s service as a Seabee, or more formally referred to as the Construction Battalion (hence the “CB”):

I know his unit was attached to the First Marine Division for some of their battles in the Pacific. He was wounded by a Japanese hand grenade on the island of Peleliu, but he served on several other islands. I have not had much luck finding records, since it was not uncommon to attach part of a Seabee battalion to a marine unit ... and the people writing the history only talk about the main unit.”

Tapestry started in May 2019 ... completed the main portion of the tapestry March 2020. Finishing the warp threads was completed in October 2020. Total bead count: 68,817 size 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads. 14” x 17”.
