I want you to fall in love (with math) - Roger Antonsen, University of Oslo

Leaving today's full team learning sesion, my colleague and friend Nick spotted this fraction on the stairs. We've all heard that "math is everywhere" but maybe what isn't everywhere is a deep appreciation for it's poetry and possibilities.

Roger Antonsen shared with us today that fractions can literally sing (well.. be heard and understood as music) and he showed us how 4/3 can be filled with wonder. A great question today was about the tension between "the curriculum" (notice the quotes) and our hopes to construct authentic learning filled with experimentation, innovation and collaboration.

My wonder is simply, is this an either/or proposition? Maybe by listening to our students and to our hearts (falling in love with math) we can do both. Listening to the educators from Ontario, Alberta and Norway today certainly fills me with great optimism about this!
