South Plains wins its third title in five years.
Pittsburg, KS - South Plains won the 2022 NJCAA Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship with a commanding 140 total points at Pittsburg State University on Saturday. The title is the second consecutive championship for the Texans and third overall since 2017. Placing second was Barton with 62 points and Iowa Western rounded out the top with 51 points.
After day one of competition, the Texans led by 10 points ahead of Colby (KS) and carried their dominance into day two with a top-10 finish in all but three events.
Farquharson leads the way for South Plains
Kimar Farquharson helped contribute to the Texans' championship run, placing first in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:50.85, while contributing to the 4x800 championship title, running the first leg and setting the tone for South Plains.
Jeremy Bembridge took home first-place in the 400 meter run with a 46.62 mark, as well as running the second leg of the championship 4x400 meter relay.
South Plains' Tomas Nieto makes history.
The Colombian-born freshman reached a major milestone on day one of the Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship, posting a 17'6" mark which breaks the Colombian national record. His record-breaking performance earned South Plains 10 points and helped contribute to the team's championship title.
