Literacy
This term our key text was an explanation text on how to wash a Woolly Mammoth.
We made plausible predictions about the text using a range of clues.
We worked in pairs or small groups to explore the features.
We used adjectives to describe the mammoth and used these to write expanded noun phrases.
We explored technical vocabulary and different time openers.
Take a look at some of our final pieces.
Maths
We revisited the four operations and missing numbers
We revisited 2 D and 3D shapes.
We explored mass.
Position and direction
We enjoyed giving our partners instructions. We used the terminology clockwise and anti clockwise. Quarter and three quarter turns.
History Topic
The land that time forgot
We explored various dinosaurs in our very own museum.
Isabelle helped us create a life size timeline with post it notes.
This helped us to understand the timeline in our new topic.
We scanned our QR code to find out more information and added events in chronological order.
We were able to classify dinosaurs according to their characteristics.
We compared Mary Anning and David Attenborough.
Our final piece was to work in groups to create a poster all about our learning. We then presented these to the class.
Religious Education
In RE we have been looking at the key question - How does faith contribute to community cohesion?
In the first two weeks we focused on Christianity and we looked at the morals from parables in the Bible.
We then looked at the miracles Jesus performed and how believing in them strengthens Christians faith in God.
We looked at how we show respect and are good Christians.
We then moved on to Judaism and looked at how Jewish people respect the Torah and are reminded that God is always with them by having the Mezuzah on their door frame.
We looked at Shabbat, the Jewish day of rest. We found out about the activities that Jewish children can and can’t do during Shabbat. We were surprised by some of the restrictions.
Finally, we looked at Islam. We discussed rules and consequences and explored the rules Muslims follow and how these rules help them feel part of the community.
This term, we explored each of the four seasons.
We compared the number of daylight hours in each season and found out why the length of the days change in different season.
We explored weather and worked scientifically to explain how the wind directs an object.
We made our own Beaufort scale.
We created our own weather vanes so we could perform a simple test to record the wind direction.
Finally, we explored materials. We investigated their properties and discussed why common objects are made from certain materials.
Well done to all our book nook entries.
