"Von Disco's music is contemporary, beautiful, and incredibly diverse. Eric, Jesse, and Tyson have mastered the art of incorporating every imaginable genre into their music, stylistically fusing elements from Funk, HipHop, Jazz, Soul, Drum 'n Bass to frankly, everything in between." - Scott Rowland/ALOC MEDIA
Forged by a shared affinity for James Yancey’s (J Dilla) angelic HipHop compositions, Von Disco was undeniably founded as a multi-dimensional Urban Jazz trio. Founding drummer, Alex Armstrong, beckons synergistic cohesion between guitarist/emcee Jesse Hunter and keyboardist/bass player Tyson Bennett. Along comes Zach Lucas (Sax) and the ensemble finally feels complete. Although each constituent of the personnel is individually educated and fluent in a vast array of genres, Von Disco has unwaveringly aligned the scope of dedication towards expanding their Jazz driven HipHop/Funk roots as a foundation to traverse additional sonic terrain, such as TripHop and Soul. To place a seemingly satirical twist on the group’s musical influences and overall trajectory of sound, some of these members have a particular fondness for the “jam band” concept, or as Jesse affectionately refers to it, “exploratory movements.” The end result equivocates to pristinely composed melodic Groove compositions coalescing rap, audacious drum beats, sub sonic bass frequencies, sassy saxophone, and ethereal melodic moments with improvisational passages that employ thematic development over the course of the sonic journey. Essentially, a TripFunk jam band, but vastly more complex.
