Isham Update July 2021

Nurturing the infinite worth of every person through love, respect, perseverance, honesty and forgiveness

Head Teachers’ message

And so another academic year comes to an end – and what a year this one has been – perhaps with even more challenges than last year.

A huge thank you has to go to the Isham staff team for their incredible dedication and commitment throughout this extraordinarily challenging last 18 months. As Head Teachers, we count it a privilege to lead such a strong team, working with and alongside them and you all; thank you.

Thank you, too, for being such a supportive group of parents in the face of many adversities. Special mention has to go to our Year R parents who handed over their 4 year olds way back in September, having never set foot inside our school – thank you for trusting us, for working with us and for never having ever complained despite missing all your children’s ‘firsts’. We hope to welcome you into school in the not-so-distant future, so you can begin to build some of those special memories. To Year 1 parents, we’re conscious you did not get a much better deal – thank you for staying so positive through it all. And to Year 6, we are so sorry that your last days at primary school are spent on ten day isolation – it is not how we wanted it to end. You have all achieved so much and are in brilliant places to start Y7, having made great progress despite the pandemic. We are so proud of you. And, to everyone else, thank you for having made this year significantly easier than it could have been – by sticking to the covid rules, by not moaning when numerous trips and residentials fell by the wayside and by supporting your children so effectively through lockdowns and bubble closures. Team Isham is in a good place to return in September.

We hope that you get a good break over the summer and wish you every blessing for the last few days and for the summer holiday - ‘The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face towards you and give you peace.’ (Numbers 6:v24-26)

With very best wishes and looking forward to seeing you again in September,

Alex and Kirstin

Likewise, the following families leave us, many of whom have been with us for a lot of years: the Archer family, the Armour family, the Mills family, the Montgomery family, the Robinson family, the Simpson family and the Sutton family. We hope you’ll stay in touch with us and let us know how your children fare in the future.

Welcome to Team Isham

From September, we welcome two new staff members; Lauren Sturgess begins work as Teaching Assistant in our EYFS class alongside Helen Hughes and Dawn Jenkinson, and Diane Sinclair joins as KS2 TA, starting in September in our Y3/4 class.

Jo Humphrey and Jackie Tilley return to KS1 as TAs with Becky Hawke, and Juliet Kraftl remains in Y5/6 alongside Liz Harrison.

Lesley Farmiloe and Dawn Jenkinson stay with us – Lesley supporting pastoral work and some targeted intervention, and Dawn with her usual class cover and sport focus.

Sport Competitions

These last few weeks have seen the welcome return of face-to-face competition. On Thursday, July 8th, it was a pleasure to be able to take part in the ‘Celebration of PE and School Sport’ at Moulton College, where winners and runners up of the Virtual competitions were invited to represent the Kettering Schools Sport Partnership in variety of sports, competing against teams from the other four Sport Partnerships in the County.

Isham School qualified for Quadkids Athletics, (Yr 5/6) and Tennis (Yr 3/4). And, although the District qualifiers for Hockey were unable to take place, we were selected to bring along a team (Yr 3/4). The children competed in their separate competitions throughout the day. The hockey team were very unlucky to miss out on a medal place after several hard fought matches, but battled incredibly hard in what is a tough sport – I think they were all feeling the effects the next day!

The Yr 5/6 Athletics team did exceptionally well to come away with Silver medals, and individually, Charlie won best boy overall, and Emily won 2nd best girl overall.

Finally, the four Yr 3/4 Tennis players took Gold! As always, all of our children showed good sportsmanship and I was incredibly proud of them!

Last Friday, 16th July, the fifteen children from Year 4 took part in the PDET ‘Going for Gold’ Sports Day at Spratton Hall. They competed in 14 different sport ‘stations’, earning points for both the team, and individually. It was very exciting at the end of the day as the places were announced - out of the ten PDET schools represented, Isham School were crowned Going For Gold Champions 2021!

Individually, Oscar won 3rd best boy overall, and Imogen won 3rd best girl overall.

Again, I was so proud of our children!

Hello Friends of Isham School,

As we draw to an end of this rather turbulent year, FOIS (Friends of Isham School) would like to send our grateful thanks to you all and give you a bit of an update on what has been happening and will happen (fingers crossed) over the next few months. Please see the attached letter for an update.

Since this letter was written we have had another exciting announcement …

FOIS has been selected for the customer vote for a Tesco Community Grant. It’s a scheme which gives community projects like us grants of up to £1,500. Tesco customers will now vote in Kettering Extra and Tesco Express (Rothwell, London Rd and Ridge Close) stores during JULY, AUGUST and SEPTEMBER to decide how much funding we get, so please support us next time you shop at Tesco!

The school hopes to use the grant received to revamp the library space and really encourage the children to engage in and love reading. Please drop your blue tokens into the voting box next time you are in Tesco and please share with friends and family. The more support we get the bigger the grant. (Grants available £500, £1000 and £1500)

If you have any questions, please get in touch – fois@ishamprimary.org.uk and follow us on FB.

Have a fabulous summer.
