Evolution of gender roles
“Aunt Alexandra was fanatical on the subject of my attire. I could not possibly be a lady if I wore breeches; when I said I could do nothing in a dress, she said I wasn't suppose to do anything that required pants.” (108).
Our nation has overcome many of its historic gender roles and bias, however as a nation we still struggle for true gender equality.
While we may seem like the forefront of many things, the US is not the leading country in gender equality. However, there are many more countries with more existing bias than in the US
