Mukilteo Elementary Falcon Spirit January 7, 2022

Falcon Families,

Happy New Year to you all!

We can’t wait to spend 2022 with you and your children, and to fill the new year with new and fun learning experiences. We are so grateful to have each and every one of you be a part of our school. I would like to express my profound gratitude to the Mukilteo Elementary community who participated and contributed to our “Warm a Heart” gift drive. We were able to serve 11 families which included 35 children. The kindness of our community to support each other made the holiday season special for all that received these items, and they wanted everyone to know that your kindness and generosity is truly appreciated!

I also wanted to remind families to send students with warm layers for going outside, as the weather has officially changed to winter - as we saw over the break! We know that students will continue to need mask breaks, and we will be sending students outside to incorporate those opportunities as part of recess transitions, as we have done all year. Please help us ensure that students are able to be warm and comfortable when going outside during our upcoming winter days.

Here is to a wonderful New Year! May it be a memorable one for you and your family!

Jack Sackett, Principal

REMEMBER TO VOTE BY FEBRUARY 8TH!

Mukilteo School District Board of Directors approved resolutions during their November 22 board meeting to place two levy resolutions on the Feb. 8, 2022, election ballot: a Replacement Educational Programs Levy and a Capital Projects Levy for technology and facilities. The current Educational Programs Levy and Capital Projects Levy will expire in 2022, and the proposed levies, if passed, would replace the expiring levies. See board presentation.

Learn more about the levies on the Our District tab under Financials.

We would like to remind all our Mukilteo Elementary families that students should be symptom-free to come to school.

If your student has ANY of the following, they should stay home, (even if you believe it’s not COVID!):

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chills
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea (at least 2 loose stools in the past 24 hours)

While we recognize that many conditions can cause these symptoms, such as the “common cold” or allergies, the best way to rule out COVID is to be tested.

If your student has tested negative for COVID, they should STILL stay home until their symptoms have improved to avoid bringing other viruses or contagious conditions to school, or coughing, wiping, or blowing their nose in the classroom, for example.

If students exhibit any of the above symptoms at school, or complain of these symptoms to staff, parents/guardians will be notified, and they will be sent home. If they have 2 symptoms, they may need a COVID test to return to school or they may isolate for 10 days.

If your student has allergy symptoms or another chronic condition that is causing difficulty, please contact the School Nurse about documenting this with their healthcare provider.

Please continue to contact the Attendance Office when your student is absent: BurkhalterMC@mukilteo.wednet.edu and communicate with your student's teachers about any work they should complete during absences.

Masks must be worn by everyone while on campus regardless of vaccination status. Gaiters are not allowed.

Thank you for your help keeping Mukilteo Elementary as safe as possible.

Thanks again to the many volunteers who have helped and continue to help grow our garden into a vibrant, functional, and beautiful community space. We couldn't do it without you!

We look forward to seeing you in the garden!
Reestablishing consistent, predictable routines for learning every day is essential to attendance & participation in all modes of learning.

IMPORTANT: Please email or phone our attendance clerk Merika Burkhalter BurkhalterMC@mukilteo.wednet.edu to excuse an absence. You must notify ME’s attendance office in order to get the absence excused. If an absence is unexcused you will receive a daily phone call from the district office. If you receive this phone call please get in contact with our office to excuse the absence within 24 hours.

PREARRANGED ABSENCES: Families should try to schedule vacation travel during school breaks. However, if family travel must occur during school, it must be prearranged. The district allows 5 days to be excused any day after will be marked unexcused. Please fill out the prearranged absence form at least one week in advance.

Please try not to miss school unless your child is truly sick. Use a thermometer to check for a fever, and watch for other COVID symptoms. Keep your children home and contact the school if your child is not feeling well.

COVID VACCINATION INFO FOR 5-11 YEAR OLDS

The Mukilteo School District acknowledges that we are gathered on Indigenous Lands, the traditional territory of the Coast Salish People, specifically the Tulalip Tribes, successors in interest to the Snohomish, Snoqualmie, Skykomish, and other allied bands signatory to the 1855 Treaty to Point Elliott. The district serves a diverse population of about 15,000 students who live near the Puget Sound about 15 miles north of Seattle, Washington. Our mission is to help prepare our community's children to be successful, contributing members of the community. Our students learn in an environment that is positive, caring, and focused on their highest academic potential. And, it's working. Mukilteo students consistently score well in annual achievement tests and win academic honors. Many people have moved to the area because of the first-rate Mukilteo school system.
