Empathize

This project is specifically for students at Cyprus University of Technology, between the ages of 18 to 30 years old regardless of gender and background. Many young people are not aware or choose to ignore that sexual abuse is a common problem simply because it hasn’t happened to them. Unknowingly they might act inappropriately towards others, either through verbal jokes or through other actions without realizing their abusive behavior. They have no awareness that their behavior can be abusive to others, and because of this they continue with the wrong attitude towards others. There is no understanding or awareness that others around them might have been abused. They are not sensitive enough or have awareness that sexual abuse happens to people close to them. Some choose not to even think about this issue because it is simply easier to ignore it. By not considering this issue they unwillingly contribute to this problem.

DEFINE

A step towards solving the problems mentioned would be informing our targeted demographic about what sexual harassment is, so they need appropriate information and education about sexual harassment. They should be exposed to the impact of their actions, to understand the psychological repercussions of their actions. We also need to inform our demographic on how to address, how to handle and react appropriately when being the victim of such acts but also as a third party on how to not enable such kind of acts. We should emphasize that people should be informed that sexual abuse not only happens to females but also to men. Moreover we should state that enabling such acts is as serious as actually committing such acts.

Ideate

All IDEAS

  • Application with a danger button (also informs people about sexual abuse)
  • Event for self-defence
  • Board game
  • A website that presents a situation and display results on choices
  • A service to help identify sexual harassment
  • Informational event to raise awarness
  • Product where if you see or experience sex abuse you press a button and it collects the location of where it happened
  • Algorithm that detects sexual harassments online
  • An anonymous forum for sexual harassment victims
  • Gamification of information about sexual harassment
  • Poster that when you take a picture of it redirects you to an animated webpage
  • Catcalling zone event

final idea

Finally we decided to create a web app accompanied with informative posters. The web app contains a quiz that presents a situation to the user, and the user has to respond with the two choices that given to them. At the end of the quiz the user is finally grated on the choices that they made and on how aware of what sexual harassment is.
