SHEPERD'S PIE IDDSI LEVEL 5 - Minced and most texture

Shepherd's Pie, also known as cottage pie, is a traditional savory family dish of cooked minced meat topped with mashed potato and baked. Shepherd's Pie is the type of food that brings a smile to everyone's face! The saucy, deeply flavourful filling, creamy potato topping, and that awesome golden cheese crust are known for being a comfort go-to dish! It is a classic comfort food recipe that's healthy, hearty, and filling.

This is an IDDSI Level 5 dish.
Shepherd's Pie (Servings - 4 people)

Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook: 1 hr 10 mins Total: 1 hr 20 mins

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz (240g) minced beef
  • 8 oz (240g) boiled vegetables e.g. carrots
  • 8 oz (240g) mashed potato
  • 1 oz (30g) margarine
  • 1/2 pint (300ml) stock
  • 1 oz (30g) flour

Method:

  1. Fry mince in margarine until brown. Add flour and stir until mixed in.
  2. Slowly add stock. Stirring continuously .
  3. Bring to boil and simmer for 20 minutes. Stir occasionally.
  4. Puree the meat and vegetables separately.
  5. Place a layer of meat and a layer of vegetables in a casserole dish.
  6. Place a layer of mashed potato on top.
  7. Heat in oven until potatoes are lightly browned.

*Please note: Attempt the spoon tilt and fork pressure test to make sure the dish has a minced and moist texture.
