The Bark August 2020 - Issue 32

Regardless of where education takes place, at home or at school, it is still a powerful weapon. Sometimes as a parent it's easy to forget that everything we do with our kids is part of their education, not just remote learning, but all of the experiences we share with them are important parts of shaping them as people.

If anyone has anything to include in future issues please feel free to email it to me at janeduggan26@yahoo.com.au. Please note that if you are going to send me a photo file it needs to be a jpeg file.

The Potato Olympics

Potato Olympians from all over the world came to the Candlebark 2020 Potato Olympics. Each of them competed bravely in the following events.

The Bobsled Event – Our potatoes zoomed down the slide, we measured how far they rolled.

The Catapult Event – We made catapults and our potatoes flew through the air.

The Diving Event – Our potatoes dived into a bucket of water, we measured how much water they splashed out.

The Potato and Spoon Race – We timed how quickly our potatoes made it from one side of the soccer field to the other.

The Breakdance Event – We counted how many spins our potatoes could do.

The Velodrome Event – We measured how many ¼ laps our potatoes could do.

I liked the Potato Olympics because I came 3rd in the potato catapolt. My favourite event was potato catapult event. It was sad when Ben’s potato exploded. My Potato represented Indonesia. Their name was Suny. My favourite moment was when Suny came 3rd. - Edie

I like the Potato Olympics because you do challenges with potatoes!! My favourite moment was when Ben catapulted Up and made him go flying through the air like a bird, and the saddest moment was when Up first went rolling down the slide in the bobsled event and cracked when he hit the ground. - Mars

I like the potato olympics because it is fun. My favourite event was the diving event. It was sad when Ben’s potato died. My potato represented Greece. They did really well in the velodrome event. My favourite moment was when my potato went down the slide for the bobsled event. - Sofia

Cooper

The Potato Olympics made me laugh. My potato represented USA. they did really well in The Bobsled Event. My favourite part was drawing my potatoes face. - Felix

Grade 5 & 6 Surrealism Exquisite Corpse Game

I wonder if the kids can remember which exquisite picture they created?
Grade 2, 5 & 6s are waiting for the day to fire the kiln. It's packed and ready to go.

Year 7 Portraits

The Year 7s did some really interesting and beautiful portraits of and tributes to contemporary and modern artists.

Bases Hangout

Lost child? Never fear the bases is the place to find them! Here are some photos that were taken at the bases, a popular place for many kids to hang out at the end of term 2.

Grade 5 & 6 Shoe Drawings

Grade 1 Matisse cut outs

Grade one are working on Matisse cut outs. They started with these fish skeletons at school. At home they are practicing curves and wavy cuts and zingy colours. They read Matisse's Garden. A very beautiful book about the famous and colourful cut outs.

Brownyn Bancroft inspiration

When the black lives matter demonstrations were happening in Australia, Year Sevens completed a short workshop with Steve and Wendy P. They discussed a short history of Australian race relations and why it's important to exercise our democratic rights to protest and initiate change. They looked at Bronwyn Bancroft's work. Bancroft's paintings are rich in aboriginal visual language and the patterns that describe country.

Medieval Manuscripts

Grade 3 & 4 designed their own letters based on Medieval Manuscripts.

La tour Eiffel

This term, the Grade 3/4s have been learning about the most famous French landmark: la tour Eiffel, the Eiffel tower.

At home, they have been working on posters to illustrate facts about the tower. Some of the students have also built models of the tower. Here are some of their creations so far.
