Class 8 Learning Journey Autumn Term 2 - 2022/2023

Literacy

During Literacy this half term we have focused on informal letter writing.

We used skills such as persuasive devices, conjunctions, range of punctuation and a variety of sentence starters; to help us to write a letter to Charlie's mum and dad to persuade them to come and live in the Chocolate Factory.

We thought carefully about how we would feel if we were in Charlie's position and reflected this in our final outcome.

We have continued to really impress Miss Shore with our determination and resilience whilst writing some fantastic pieces for our writing portfolio.

LIRA

In LIRA this term, we firstly used the fiction text 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' to continue to help us to develop our reading and comprehension skills.

We then moved onto using the fiction text 'Christmasaurus' which we enjoyed reading during the build-up to Christmas!

Maths

In maths this half term we recapped all four operations and worked on accuracy skills for written methods. We then applied our skills to problem solving and reasoning questions. We really impressed Miss Shore with our resilience and determination to further our understanding and learning during our maths lessons. We have also worked on measures - where we have converted different units of measure, looked at symmetry of shapes, learned about different types of lines and identified different types of angles.

We have also continued to show the school values of being resilient and independent when improving our arithmetic scores! Great to see so many of our pupils continuing to strive to be the best they can! Keep it up!

Topic

This half term our focus area for topic has been on Design and Technology. During this topic we designed and made a Christmas themed T-shirt,

In our lessons we have explored and gathered different ideas for our final outcomes. We selected suitable materials through testing and discussion.

We learned about and practiced different types of stitching as well as exploring different types of textiles to add detail to our designs.

We then applied all of our new skills to create some fabulous Christmas themed T-shirts that we are extremely proud of.

Thank you everyone who managed to join us at our Fashion Show - where the children showed off their T-shirts and work they have been doing.

Science

In science this term we have explored animals including humans.

We started off by exploring different types of skeletons and muscles within the human body.

Once we had developed our understanding of these components we moved onto diets and explored the importance of different food groups.

Finally, we learned about different food chains and even made some of our own!

PD/RSHE

We continued to focus on our Physical Wellbeing this half term. We discussed how to maintain good oral health and we also learnt about the risks and benefits of sun exposure.

We also discussed the challenges of living a healthy lifestyle and the laws and guidance about the use of legal and illegal drugs.

Celebrations

During this half we have had lots of children show the school values and were awarded certificates! Lots of other celebrations too. Make sure you continue to share your celebrations from home with us by either bringing things into school, on Twitter or on Seesaw - we love to see them!

Cadbury's World

As part of our Literacy and LIRA units this half term we were lucky enough to visit Cadbury's World. We participated in a number of different activities including a creative writing workshop where children were able to apply their literacy skills.

TTRockstars/Children in Need Day

We had a brilliant day celebrating TT Rockstars and Children in Need in Class 8! There were some brilliant costumes and it was fantastic to see everyone so enthusiastic about their timestables,

Y4 Swimming

Remember Y4 pupils will continue with their swimming lessons for three weeks at the beginning of next half term - commencing on Tuesday 10th January 2023. They will need to bring their swimming kit to school in a bag as normal on these days (swimming costume/shorts and a towel).

Next half term we will be learning...

Have a lovely Christmas!

Thank you Class 8 for all your hard work this term! Have a great few weeks off with your family.

Merry Christmas to you all from Miss Shore and Mrs Sharpe!
