POINTS OF PRIDE

USF is one of nine institutions (MIT, Georgia Tech, Cornell, Duke, UC-San Diego, Univ. of Illinois-Champaign, Penn State, and USF) awarded a prestigious Alfred P. Sloan Foundation University Center of Exemplary Mentoring (UCEM) for its national leadership in minority graduate student success.

In 2016, Sarina Ergas, Professor and Graduate Program Director in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, was awarded SACNAS Distinguished Mentor Award for her leadership and mentorship in preparing students from diverse to solve complex public health and environmental problems.

Three recent PhD graduates, Colleen Naughton, Ryan Locicero, and Joseph Bonivel, Jr., have been selected as AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellows to apply their PhD training and knowledge toward important societal challenges.

Devin Walker MSChE’12 and Timothy Roberge MSCHE’12 cofounded T2C-Energy, a renewable energy R&D company as a result of their thesis research.
