In Omaha Nebraska, there are five high schools that are different from the rest. Creighton Prep, Mount Michael, Duchesne, Marian, and Mercy all have one thing in common: they are single sex schools. This means that Creighton Prep and Mount Michael only admit boys and Duchesne, Marian, and Mercy only admit girls. Many wonder the difference that single sex has from co-ed, and what are the differences between all girls and all boys.
The next school is Marian High School, founded in 1955 by the Servants of Mary. This school has won the U.S department of Education Blue Ribbon Award two times! They have a great sports environment and focus on tradition and learning. They are the only class A private school with girls and, for sports, they strive for excellence.
All girls schools are fun and exciting and truly are a great environment for a high schooler. The all boy schools in Omaha, Prep and Mount, are drastically different.
The final single sex school is the most known, Creighton Prep. Also known as “Prep”, is the only class A boys school, and dominates in sports, academics, and has won many national awards for its excellence. Founded in 1878, Edward G. Creighton built this school for boys to live happily and have a great education. The Jesuits are in charge of it, and they truly are “men for others”.
The F.U.N committee or, Five United Neighbors, focuses on the unity of these schools. They use service projects and fun events to get people involved and along better. Out of all the catholic schools, the single sex ones thrive in excellence and fun. If you are thinking of sending your kids to a private school, I recommend one of these.
