Dear University community,
- This past weekend saw a flurry of activity from dance to on-campus runs. New York City-based Ballet Nepantla presented a stunning celebration of ancestral heritage and Día de Muertos with their concert Mística, at the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Theater. Thanks to the College of Arts and Sciences for making their return performance possible.
- Also Saturday, we saw some "undead" students come alive at the fun and first-ever 3K Zombie Run. This looks like something that might become an October tradition here on campus.
- Speaking of traditions, it’s time for Maroon Madness on Tuesday, Oct. 18, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Kinesiology and Convocation Building (KCB). The first 1,200 students get a free commemorative T-shirt, and there will be chances to win Beats headphones, a gaming console, gift cards, a flat screen TV and…drum roll…free tuition. Don’t miss out, and come and show your Dustdevil spirit.
- Student members of the Student Government Association Political Action Committee have organized two events to get to know candidates for City Council and Mayoral races. A City Council Town Hall Event is Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. A Mayoral Town Hall event follows Thursday, Oct. 20 at 6:30 p.m., also in the Student Center Ballroom.
- You’re likely deep into research this time of the semester, and the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library has a new addition to its research family…and you could say it’s really Primo. That’s the name of the new Library Catalog and a powerful search tool that you can access on the Killam Library homepage. Find out more with this short video tutorial or this blog link.
- We continue to observe National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. We’re proud to be a part of this national observance focused on learning about the latest ways to protect the University, and our friends and families online. Find more information here.
- Early voting on campus begins Monday, Oct. 31 through Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily in the Western Hemispheric Trade Center lobby (WHTC). Please exercise this most precious of rights.
- As is our annual tradition, TAMIU will host the 2022 Walk to End Alzheimer’s here on campus on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022. Team TAMIU seeks additional members from the University community of students, faculty, administrators, staff, and alumni to join us in this worthy cause that impacts so many. Join Team TAMIU here.
- Please note that COVID-19 continues to be a threat here, across our State, nation, and world. The use of recommended face coverings/masks, and rigorous hand-washing can help reduce your exposure risk. Learn more about on-campus testing.
- Monkeypox is a rare disease caused by infection with the monkeypox virus. As the disease also remains a threat to college campuses, TAMIU students are encouraged to remain informed about the disease. Monkeypox Information specific to colleges and universities is available on our COVID-19 Response Center website.
Let’s all have a great week, and Go Dustdevils!
- Pablo Arenaz, Ph.D., President

TAMIU has been named one of the nation's best schools for online degrees and certificates in the higher education healthcare field for 2023 by EduMed.org. TAMIU’s online programs in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences earned top honors for their overall quality, affordability and commitment to student success.
"Our one mission is to support students’ success in their major. To reach this end, we pour resources into supporting our students, such as Board prep courses, supplemental materials, one-on-one mentoring, academic advising and more. Over the years these investments have paid off -- we have had 100% pass rate for the FNP national certification examination on our students’ first attempt. This a testament to the dedication of our faculty and students to excellence. Promoting and facilitating the success of our students is one way to address the nursing shortage in the region.”
- Dr. Marivic Torregosa, dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences
