Upper School Athletics
The 2021–2022 Winged Lions Athletics campaign closed out with a bang this spring! The boys soccer team had a Cinderella season, entering the state 2A playoffs seeded ninth, but tenaciously plowing their way through five higher seeded teams to capture our first state title since 2013. The girls golf team went undefeated in league play and then, led by now three-time state individual medalist Arden Louchheim, cruised to a 33-stroke victory at the state tournament to come away with their second consecutive championship. The boys tennis team won the Region 15 title, then went on to claim the state 3A runner-up trophy, losing by a single point, with #2 Singles player Eric Lu claiming the individual title at that position and posting an undefeated record for the season. Junior sprinter Jada Crockett raced her way to first-place medals at the state track meet in both the 100- and 200-meter events—an amazing feat. And our young softball team took second in league play, then went on to compete in two rounds of the state tournament. Wow—an amazing list of accomplishments!
Credit goes to our dedicated athletes and passionate, enthusiastic coaches, including Joe Murray, Jack Schill, and Loic Fauquembergue, boys soccer; Brianna Coopman and Spencer Schindler, girls golf; Rich Francey and Susan Daynes, boys tennis; Mark Oftedal, Roland Tolbert, Jake Colangelo, Ashley Hagensick, and Sam Duffy, track and field; and Kathy Howa, Kendra Tomsic, Leslie Varoz, and alum volunteer assistant Maddie Keil, softball. Many thanks and congratulations to all.
