Pumpkin Pageant Photo Essay by Bella Nuñez: Halloween '22

A Ghoulish Good Time

On October 31st, the school celebrated Halloween on campus. The first ever "Pumpkin Pageant" took place. Students and faculty dressed up to show their school spirit on this festive holiday.

The entirety of the student body, along with faculty and staff, gathered in the gym during FOCUS. The best costumes walked the runway while the rest of the students cheered on their sisters.

Twin Trouble

As the best costumes of each grade walked the pageant runway, seniors Ana and Lili Silveira showed off their spooky costume: the haunting twins from horror movie "The Shining."

"Ana and I have been planning this costume for a long time, and we felt it was perfect to do it for our last year," senior Lili Silveira said.

Spooky School Spirit

Sometimes school spirit is exemplified by a prosthetic nose, oversized chef hat, and gourmet cheese… this is Ratatouille.

"For our last year, we wanted a larger than life costume and came up with this masterpiece," senior Isa Gomez said.

Once a Lourdes Girl, Always a Lourdes Girl

Team OLLA did not miss out on the festivities; the best costumes of faculty and staff walked the runway as well.

Faculty and alumni Mrs. Anie Flor '84, Mrs. Miriann Meyeringh '99, Mrs. Cristina Noriega '88, Mrs. Jennifer Martinez, and Ms. Alina Yaniz '04 nostalgically dressed as OLLA students in the school uniform and typical accessories.

Look at me, I'm Sandra Dee...

Sister Marie always dresses to impress on Halloween. She is the two-time champion of being "best dressed."

This year, Sister Marie dressed as Sandy from the classic 70s movie "Grease," while some other faculty members dressed as the "pink ladies."

THE DARLING DALMATIANS

For the freshman class' first OLLA Halloween, they graciously demonstrated school spirit. The freshman council assembled a costume that would include both its members and their moderators.

"The Freshman council truly showed their enthusiasm by planning this costume that would include everyone, even myself and Mrs. Caceres,” Mrs. Martica Castellanos said.

A Boo-tiful Halloween

The best costume of each grade was awarded a sash in representation of their Halloween and school spirit.

Freshman Alejandra Lopez won First Place from the freshman class as she dressed as Gizmo the Gremlin: a life-size representation of her school spirit.

Spooky Squad

From individual costumes to an entire movie cast. Students from the 11th grade dressed as characters from the movie "Despicable Me."

“A girl in my focus came up with the idea of doing a group costume, so We thought doing ‘Despicable Me’ would be both funny and cute,” says junior Daniella Quijano. I loved the pumpkin pageant because it helped unite me and my classmates.”
