THE THREE ESTATES

The estates are broken up into three groups, the 1st , 2nd , and 3rd estate. The 1st estate was made up of only 1% or less and was mostly clergy(church official). The 1st estate was treated with great respect and was the top estate that didn't have to pay taxes. The 2nd estate was made up of 2% and were mostly nobles. The 2nd estate was treated nice and with some respect but not like the 1st estate and the 2nd estate also didn't have to pay taxes. The 3rd estate was the majority of the people with 97% of people that were all average joes of lower class. The 3rd estate was not treated with respect and were always getting the worst of everything and they were also the only estate to pay taxes.

The Invasion of The Bastille

The in invasion of the Bastilles was where the people of France were mad at the 1st and 2nd estates because of the government and how they had no say in the government. The people stormed the Bastilles for the governor's head. The reason they did this was because of things like the government or the bread crisis. In result of the storming this lead up to the French Revolution and caused a lot more chaos.

The Jacobins and Girondins

The jacobins and the Girondins were the two most important groups during the revolution. The Jacobins were a radical thinking group led by Robespierre and Danton. Anyone could join the Jacobins. Jacobins wanted immediate execution of King Louis XVI. It was also the time of a rivalry between the Jacobins and the Girondins. The Girondins are a more moderate thinking group they were part of the jacobins but later separated. Meetings for the Girondins would take place in the Madame Roland's salon. The Girondins were known for opposite thinking from the Jacobins. They wanted to engage in war to bring the nation together and gain political power. Girondists loved the king but wanted a few changes. The jacobins and Girondins had complete opposite thinking that's why they separated.

TENNIS COURT OATH

The tennis court oath happened because of the recent meeting of estates general. The 3rd estate , the common people were locked out of the meeting that the 1st and 2nd estate are having. The 3rd estate ends up meeting in a tennis court. They create a tennis court oath. They also all create a National Assembly that are against the 1st and 2nd estates because they are the only estate that is getting taxed. This leads up to the declaration of rights of man and other known events.

The execution of the king and queen

One day after being convicted of conspiracy with foreign powers and and sentenced to death by the French nation convention. King Louis XVI was executed by the guillotine. Marie was thought to be talking to Austria about French war strategies, so she was put on trial and she was sentenced by death by the guillotine.

The fall of Robespierre

The fall of Robespierre ended the reign of terror. Robespierre was arrested and held in a hotel . Robespierre ordered two of his close friends to be executed because they were popular in Paris. Robespierre attempted suicide by shooting himself in the face but he failed to do so. French officials found Robespierre unconscious in the hotel room. They later brought him to the rolling cart to bring him to the guillotine to be executed. Robespierre along with 21 other people were executed on the same day. In the next couple of days 82 of his followers were executed. These executions ended the reign of terror.
