Plunkett Post TERM 3 WEEK 4

What a busy two weeks we have had since the last Plunkett Post. We have celebrated NAIDOC week and all students have been very busy in the classrooms with their learning as well as participating in a variety of extra-curricular events.

Our NAIDOC week celebrations included flag raising, an assembly, Morning Tea for parents and Elders, Doing Things together Day, Read Arounds, Indigenous Games, and a BBQ for students. Our school acknowledgement of Country was introduced to the school community at the assembly and will be shared with the wider school community very soon.

We also had Fulton Hogan (who are building the new bridge) work with students to transform a tired garden area outside the school hall. They visited the school last Friday to transform the space with students from Years 3 – 6. Futlon Hogan donated worker’s time and the plants to help us transform the space and I would like to thank them on behalf of the school community for their time and donation of plants, materials, and time to help us transform a tired area of the school.

I want to take this opportunity to congratulate our girls Senior Primary Dance group who, after submitting an audition, were successful in gaining a spot in this year’s School Spectacular to be held in November this year. This is a huge achievement for a group that was only formed this year. They have been having weekly lessons with Mrs Veljanovski and have worked hard. Well done to the girls and Mrs Veljanovski for this great achievement.

Our Healthy Hermits team competed in the Regional South semi-final of the Game Changer Challenge this week. They were supported by their Mentor, Ms Christensen and had an enjoyable day but have to wait until next week to find out if they have made it to the next level. Congratulations for making it this far and representing the school with pride.

A school team of about 50 students participated at the District Athletics carnival this week. It was a long day with the carnival being held in Shellharbour. All students tried their best and had a great time. I did see some weary students and teachers return to school. All teachers commented on the excellent participation, effort, and behaviour of all students. Well done to all.

Please remember to collect the next batch of RATs from either the Infants or Primary offices. All students are entitled to 2 boxes. I am not sure if we will receive any more deliveries after this.

Finally, I would like to reinforce the importance of regular student attendance. While we ask that students who are unwell remain at home until they are better it is important that students attend school if they are well. We will be reviewing student attendance and reaching out to students and parents if their attendance is not meeting Departmental targets to work with families to improve student attendance so that all students are attending school 90% or more over the course of the school year.

If student attendance rates are very low with many unexplained absences, then we must follow departmental guidelines which includes students being included on the Home School Liaison Program where the Home School Liaison Officer (HSLO) works closely with families to improve student attendance.

Regards,

Nicole Humphreys, Principal

TOUCH FOOTY WIN!

Last Tuesday, 13 boys from stage three travelled to Bomaderry Sports Complex for a knockout game of touch football against Cambewarra P.S. The students were excited to finally get to compete and play on grass again after so long. Our excitement quickly dulled as Cambewarra took an early lead (4-0), however the Nowra P.S. fighting spirit got us back in the game with scores locked at 8 all at full time. After five minutes of extra play scores were still tied so we went to a drop off. Playing 5 v 5 the boys hustled and got the ball out to Caiden Green on the right wing who scored the winning try for the Nowra P.S. team.

Well done to our boys touch team - on we go to play Illaroo Road Public School.

A special thank you to those parents who gave up their time to transport the boys to the game and the Bomaderry High students who refereed and scored the game.
