We offer a wide variety to ways you can display artwork purchased from www.edwardfielding.com. Framed and matted prints in hundreds of different frame choices, canvas prints, acrylic prints, metal prints, wood prints and prints rolled in a tube for framing locally. Which format is right for your decor?
Here is a quick description of the various formats available:
- Paper prints - produced on acid-free papers using archival inks to guarantee that they last a lifetime without fading or loss of color. All art prints include a 1" white border around the image to allow for future framing and matting. You have several choices of papers from standard to fine art.
- Framed prints - hundreds of different frame and mat combinations. Our framed prints are assembled, packaged, and shipped by our expert framing staff and delivered "ready to hang" with pre-attached hanging wire, mounting hooks, and nails.
- Metal prints - Bring your artwork to life with the stylish lines and added depth of a metal print. Your image gets printed directly onto a sheet of 1/16" thick aluminum. The aluminum sheet is offset from the wall by a 3/4" thick wooden frame which is attached to the back. The high gloss of the aluminum sheet complements the rich colors of any image to produce stunning results. And typically these are an economical option because the assembly process is quick - print and cut.
- Acrylic prints - Bring your artwork to life with the stylish lines and added depth of an acrylic print. Your image gets printed directly onto the back of a 1/4" thick sheet of clear acrylic. The high gloss of the acrylic sheet complements the rich colors of any image to produce stunning results.
- Wood prints - Your image gets printed directly onto a sheet of 3/4" thick maple wood. There are D-clips on the back of the print for mounting it to your wall using mounting hooks and nails (included).
- Canvas prints - Your image gets printed onto one of our premium canvases and then stretched on a wooden frame of 1.5" x 1.5" stretcher bars (gallery wrap) or 5/8" x 5/8" stretcher bars (museum wrap). Your canvas print will be delivered to you "ready to hang" with pre-attached hanging wire, mounting hooks, and nails.
With all of the options, which do you choose? Well, the way I see it, it depends on your decor style and the size of the print. Framed and matted prints are traditional and worthy of museum quality artwork. The mat and glass protects the image from dust, dirt, insects etc. The presentation is formal and classic. And you can choose frames from simple to elaborate to match your decor. Framed artwork looks great in groupings also. Nothing shows off the detail and range of a fine art photograph better than a fine art paper.
The downside of framed artwork is it gets heavy and unwieldy in larger sizes. A large framed and matted print needs to be carefully mounted on the wall due to the weight.
Larger prints are more suitable for canvas prints. Canvas prints are light weight and look great even without frames. You can add a frame around canvas print for a more formal look. Canvas adds a bit of texture to the image so you have to like that effect.
Large unframed canvas prints are great for images that invite you to enter the image. A huge landscape on canvas becomes unhindered by the framing, you just want to walk right into the scene.
You also get less glare from a canvas print as there is no glass which can be an advantage in situations where a light is shining directly on the print.
For economic reasons one could order canvas prints rolled in a tube for stretching at home. You can make your own frame or even pick up an inexpensive blank canvas at a local arts store and stretch the printed canvas over it.
