DECEMBER contemplations

Dear ZEN DRUMMING COMMUNITY,

December is here and 2024 is rapidly drawing to an end. What a pivotal year ! Thank you to all of you who supported me and pitched in the crowdfunding campaign. I am filled with gratitude as I was able to acquire the drum set of my dreams. It is a boon to be able to play with the legendary Ludwig drum sets and I feel my practice is reaching new heights.

As many of you know, Europe has become like a second home to me. I have been based in Berlin for the last 3 1/2 years, travelling across Europe and performing in great venues and special events. As I reflect on all that came about this year, the highs and lows, I am happy to say that « my ideal-kind-of-programs’ took place this year :

• Early Spring in Portugal, I played alongside a yoga teacher who inspired me, Andreia Conceição. I loved playing while she gently lead the class into meditation.
• In Autumn, during Berlin ArtWeek, I discovered that collaborating with visual and performing artists, poets and dancers, brought about a new dimension to my work. Tuning into others and blending allowed me to fully experience deep moments of silence and contentement.
• Zen Drumming at MaHalla Berlin in April & August allowed me to step out of my confort zone. In one case performing for 2 hours non-stop. It was an exhilarating experience and communion with everyone present.
• A another highlight was launching my first series of experimental workshops known as the Zen Ensemble. This happening and immersive initiative, invited people from all walks of life to come together through the power of sound, offering a glimpse of the power of improvisation, of pure sound. It was great to see confirmed musicians and newcomers alike to cross the threshold and move beyond limitations and experience freedom.
• 2024 Winter Season in France welcomed a new collaboration with the Yoga Festival BLISS and the Tai-Chi Bordeaux Community. I played as special guest in a series of open modules intended to spark moments of awareness combining movement and stillness.

WHAT’S NEW

In 2025, I plan to return to Japan, soak in hot springs, enjoy delicious food and rejuvenate my body. My intentions for 2025 is ＊Reset / “Emptiness”. I would like to rebuild my expression from ground up, drawing upon all the experiences gained so far.
