Edgewood Early Childhood Center Classroom Spotlight

At the beginning of last year Edgewood invested in SuccessMaker, a highly effective K-8 math assessment tool. Mrs. Lindroth, a kindergarten teacher at EECC says, "SuccessMaker has been an amazing differentiation tool to meet the needs of all of the learners in my class. SuccessMaker is truly personalized to meet each students' individual needs by adjusting instruction in real-time based on their performance on each question. I have students working ahead on 1st or 2nd grade skills and students that are getting intervention on skills that have already been taught in the classroom. It instructs and delivers tutorials on new topics, provides guided practice, practice questions, and assesses. SuccessMaker automatically collects data that I can review at any time to help guide my instruction."

Edgewood Primary School Special Services Spotlight

Miss Mays’ students learned all about animal habitats, both at school and at the zoo. In the classroom, students participated in many different activities such as reading stories and creating their own animals with everyday items. Students also learned about various habitats. Students then travelled to the zoo where they were able to compare what they learned from the classroom to real animals living in zoo habitats. During the trip, students were asked to make connections by talking about what animal and habitats they were looking at.

Edgewood Intermediate "Equipped for Reading Success" Book Study

Over the last few years the curriculum department has been challenging staff and administration to enhance literacy instruction in the classroom. This book has been changing the way our teachers think about best-practices in literacy instruction. Edgewood Intermediate teachers are doing a book study on the Science of Reading. They are reading "Equipped for Reading Success" by David Kilpatrick. The group meets weekly before school to discuss the book along with ways to incorporate it into their daily teaching. District K-5 teachers are working on becoming more familiar with comprehensive phonological awareness.

Edgewood Middle School PBIS Spotlight

Just before Thanksgiving break the Student Council helped plan and set up our first EMS dance. The dance was an incentive for students who had reached a certain number of behavior points for being respectful, responsible, and safe in key areas of the building. December will focus on individual academic achievement as well as behavior. The December incentive will feature a movie for students the day before break.

As a new club we are making sure to take the time to educate the students and parents involved on the goals and expectations of being a Hope Squad member. Both EMS and EHS have completed the nomination process for new members and we are looking forward to working with these students to help spread kindness and hope throughout the district. High School Hope Squad Advisor Jessica Hollinger talks with the EHS Hope Squad during the Student Orientation.
