Isham Update June 2021

Nurturing the infinite worth of every person through love, respect, perseverance, honesty and forgiveness

Head Teachers’ message

Hopefully we are nearing the end of the pandemic and life in school is beginning to feel a little more normal. We are slowly returning to face-face-worship, mixed lunchtimes and breaks, and our children (particularly our Year R children) are beginning to realise they are part of something much bigger than their bubble! There is a real sense of ‘normality’ returning.

Our Worship theme is accepting one another, which brings to life our school values of love, respect and forgiveness. Christians believe that every single person is created in the image of God and therefore of equal and inherent worth. Our difference and diversity is our strength and a beautiful expression of who we are and who God is. The Bible speaks often about God’s love and acceptance of us all and how we should be accepting of others. Jesus showed us that all human beings are to be accepted, to be loved for their own sake, simply because they are created in the image of the loving Father. Acceptance is a part of love and is non-judgemental. We accept ourselves as children of God and we accept others for who they are, as they are.

May we, and all the children whom we educate and challenge to become the best they can be, know that we are all loved and adored by the God who made us, sustains us and who longs to see us flourish. In the midst of the immense, but temporal, challenges that we face in our lives today, and in spite of our many shortcomings, may we all hold fast to the truth that we are totally loved and adored by God, and called to share that same love with all those in our care. Let’s pray that this term runs smoothly, covid-free and that we all show our school values in our dealings with one another.

PDET - Our new CEO

Following previous news regarding the retirement of our current Trust CEO, the Trust is delighted to announce that Ruth Walker-Green has been appointed as PDET’s new CEO.

Ruth already knows our school well as she is the current Deputy CEO and Director of Learning and Achievement for the Trust. We are excited about her appointment as she leads PDET into the next phase of our development

The crossing on the A509 main road

Please could we bring to everyone's attention that people have been driving through the red lights on the crossing in Isham, which is worrying. We would just like to make you aware and urge drivers to drive slowly and be vigilant of the traffic lights. Thank you.

Residential Trips

Having had all residentials cancelled for 2021, we’ve been working hard to find alternative solutions…

Y6 Residentials

Current Y6 have a day trip on Monday 12th July to Grafham water. We’re hoping for a day of adventure in, on and off the water – watch this space.

Current Y5 had their Y6 Isle of Wight residential cancelled for September 2021, but we have managed to join with Weldon Primary (Kirstin’s other school) and have a week planned for 6th – 10th June 2022 at Whitemoor Lakes, Staffordshire.

Current Y4 have Whitemoor Lakes, Stafforshire booked for 12th – 16th September 2022, when they will be Y6. Further details will be sent nearer the time.

Y4 Residentials

Current Y3 do not yet have a Y4 residential booked. It may be that like the current Y4, they will only attend a Y6 residential.

Current Y2 have their Y4 residential booked at Grafham water for 21st – 23rd September 2022

P.E.

The children in KS2 have seen a return to competitive sport recently - they have competed against other schools in the Kettering and District Schools Sports Partnership in Sportshall Athletics, virtually! The children completed the set activities here in School under competition rules, and to strict standards. The results were collated and sent to Northamptonshire Sport, and I am delighted to say that the team from Yr 3/4 came first in the Kettering District, as did the team from Yr 5/6! The Yr 5/6 children have been invited to represent the Kettering District in the County Finals in July - fingers crossed it goes ahead as planned!

Reception, Yr 1/2 and Yr 3/4 have been working hard on their tennis skills, and Yr 3/4 had the opportunity to take part in a Virtual Tennis Skills competition. The average scores of the whole class over each activity were used as our 'team score', and again Isham came out on top! I love the enthusiasm shown by all the children during these virtual competitions!

Yr 3/4 have also been working hard and enjoying hockey this term, and two Hockey teams from Yr 3/4 should have been playing a tournament next week which has now unfortunately been cancelled, we are all very disappointed!

Yr 5/6 Cricketers and Yr 5/6 Girls Footballers were lucky enough to go to an actual competition - they all had a fantastic afternoon out, competing against other local schools, and thoroughly enjoying the experience!

It has been lovely to see some of our Isham children regularly taking part in the Kettering Junior Parkrun at Wicksteed Park on a Sunday morning - including four of our Reception children! Thank you, parents, for encouraging them to take part. Currently, children aged from 4 - 10 years are able to participate. The benefits of running are well known, both for physical and mental health, and we continue to provide all the children with the opportunity to run their daily mile here in school. It's so good to see some of the staff joining in too!

Sports Day

Unfortunately Trust and Government guidance is that we cannot invite parents to our Sports Day this year. The PDET central response is that, as a Trust, we are actively encouraging our schools to hold sports days, with the appropriate control measures in place as per government guidance, as it is so important for children to be able to participate in such events, especially after the constraints of the last year. However, unfortunately, Government guidance specifies a limit of 30 spectators, as these events are not “organised sport” as defined in the guidance. Consequently, as a Trust we have taken the view that, in the spirit of fairness, there should be no spectators at our school’s sports days. We know that you will be very disappointed that this is the case, and we share your disappointment, but we trust you will appreciate that the most important thing is for the children to have the opportunity to participate and that we play our part in trying to ensure the safety of all.

Thank you for your understanding.

The Year 5/6's really enjoyed their first session of Forest School, here are a few photos of them...

FOIS Newsletter

Thank you for your ongoing support for our fundraising for Friends of Isham School (FOIS). As you know events have been very limited recently so everything you can do to support us is really genuinely appreciated. You helped us raise £216.35 on the Dare to be Different Day last term, so thank you.

Please remember to support us when online shopping through EasyFundraising and Amazon Smile, these are really easy incentives that will give a donation every time you spend online, everything from car insurance, DIY to caravan holidays. Please email us FOIS@ishamprimary.org if you would like the links to set these up or look on our FB page. Please remember there is a clothes recycling bank in the KS1 playground so any clothes, shoes, towels etc that you are thinking of passing on can go in there and help support us. Additionally FOIS keep a small supply of good condition preloved school clothes, please get in touch if you are interested in anything.

Throughout this term the classes are competing in the ‘Loo$e Change Challenge’ and there is some great friendly rivalry starting between classes for the ice cream treat for the class that has the most coins. Please support your child's class by donating any loose change you may have lying around the house, or any pots of coppers that are collecting dust. We are taking all British coins, and Nina is really looking forward to counting it all up at the end of term !

We will be holding a raffle towards the end of this term. Thank you to everyone who has already donated a prize, if you work for a company who could donate a prize please get in touch. We have also been given a fundraising box for the collection of blue tokens at Tescos, we will let you know when this becomes live (when restrictions open up a bit more) which could help us raise up to £1500. Please keep an eye on our FB page for regular updates and events. Also if you would like to get involved in FOIS, particularly as we start into the new academic year please let us know, we are always looking for help. Again thank you for your ongoing support, it is very gratefully received. All money raised by FOIS goes directly to help enrich the childrens' school days, so far this term we are paying for the bus to take the year 6's on their day trip and we have a few other requests lined up. Thank you, FOIS.

Please 'like' our Facebook page as this will keep you up to date on all events: https://www.facebook.com/FOIS-Friends-of-Isham-School-176690376296486/
