Advent LOVE Our Savior Hawaii Online Sunday School

Welcome

Welcome to Our Savior Hawaii's Online Sunday School! The season of Advent is coming to a close. During the four weeks before Christmas, we anticipate and prepare for Jesus' coming. God's people waited a long time for Jesus to come. We wait for Him to come back and make everything perfect again. Advent is a time of love-filled waiting!

Scripture

Throughout Advent, we've heard Isaiah's words. Watch the video again if you'd like to remember more about who Isaiah is.

Isaiah 7:14 Therefore, the Lord Himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive, have a son, and name him Immanuel.

Matthew 1:20-23 An angel of the Lord suddenly appeared to him [Joseph] in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because what has been conceived in her is by the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to name Him Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.” 22 Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: 23 See, the virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and they will name Him Immanuel, which is translated “God is with us.”

Talk

• How does Jesus' coming show He Loves us? • What does the name Immanuel mean? How does God show you He Is with you? • What is different about JEsus' Love compared to the rest of the love in the world?

Engage

Experience love. Cut out and write your name on a heart and place it in a manger scene in your home. Jesus knows your name and comes with love for you. Discuss with your household a special way you can share Jesus' love this week. Here are some ideas from BibleBee.org:

Ways to show God’s love with actions:

  • Bake homemade treats for your neighbors
  • Invite a family over for dinner in your home
  • Clean out your house and donate toys and clothes to a shelter
  • Volunteer in your community
  • Sing Christmas carols in nursing homes or in your neighborhood

Ways to spread God’s love with words:

  • Invite people to your church for Christmas Eve or Christmas service
  • Reach out to a friend and share a video link with a clear gospel message
  • Memorize your favorite Christmas-themed Bible verse and be ready to share it
  • Use the context of Christmas to start a conversation about what Jesus has done for you
  • Ask people if they have heard the good news about Christmas? If not, tell them!

Pray + Bless

Have one family member read the italics and everyone respond with the bold "You give us love!" after each petition. Petition means part of a prayer.

Jesus, Your coming shows us how much you care. You give us love! You promise your comfort and presence forever and ever. You give us love! Our hearts are filled with thanksgiving because of your sacrifice. You give us love! Help us to be more like you each day. You give us love! Amen.

Lay hands on each other as a family and say:

May God be...In your head and in your thinking...In your eyes and in your seeing...In your ears and in your listening...In your mouth and in your speaking...In your heart and in your understanding...In your hands and in your serving...Because we want to use our talents to share love. Amen!
