No, we're not studying 6th Century Chinese philosophy, a captain buddy/frequent denizen of Compass Cay sent us an amusing meme via Instagram.
The Tao proverb pretty much sums up our thoughts and actions as we navigate around life aboard. Yes, we're laid back, however we are a bit more focused than The Dude. (most times)
Georgetown
Our stay in Georgetown, SC has been time well spent. Mel and I have always enjoyed getting to know our stops along the way, especially the small out of the way places and Georgetown clearly fits that description. Mel thinks she'd like to live in the Carolinas, me not so much. She likes seasons and the Carolinas offer those, I love seasons too if winter wasn't one of them. And, let's not lose sight, it's a long way to the islands from here.
Generally speaking, Georgetown is a fine place to stay for a week or two. At face value, it's a quiet little town with nice folks, good restaurants, and laid back living; spending time here you'll soon realize, in a southern kinda way, all that's authentic.
Georgetown has become the retirement home for many folks from all over - so local culture is about as diverse as the rest of the country. Like most desirable places, gentrification has caught on and appears to be spreading. There's a palpable underlying vibe — the long time residents are less than thrilled with these interlopers and the prosperity they bring, but that's usually the case. We have noticed and appreciate there are few political signs or stickers, with the exception of "DON"T DRILL — SC".
With few distractions, being tied up at Harborwalk Marina has given me time and inspiration to take on a few projects; some boat, some business, others creative. Combining all these, provided reason to experiment with a new format for story telling and posting photos. That's why this post looks different than it has for the last 10 years.
it's time to move on.
Life's given us reason to drive back home to Jupiter and take care of some things so we'll be leaving soon. Still undecided where to tie up Istaboa, it's time we start preparing for Hurricanes. Somewhere in our future is a nicely protected marina. Harborwalk, though 14 miles from the coast, is up the wide open Winyah Bay and really not that protected. Also, I suspect we're being profiled as a couple of likely interlopers the natives don't care for. I guess that's understandable when trying to keep your happy place in the world — yours.
North? — South?
Yes
Cheers,
ps:
Working on a new visual presentation for onSpot, I've collected several nice photos of the marinas and anchorages we've visited in the last few years. This new format offers a cool way to publish pics and video. A few of those photographs and a video follow.
