Causes of the Great War

One of the biggest causes of World War 1 was the assassination of Franz Ferdinand and his wife in Sarajevo. They were killed by a Serbian nationalist, leading people to blame the Serbian government for the deaths.

Battle of Verdun

One of the biggest battles of World War 1 was the Battle of Verdun. This was a nearly ten month battle between German and French forces with nearly 600,000 casualties on both sides. Artillery fired throughout the entire battle and shot about 2.5 million shells.

Prisoners of War: Central Forces

The Central Forces, which was mostly made up of the Gemans, held many prisoners. Over all, in about 300 concentration camps in Germany, 2.4 million people from the Allied forces were held. About 2 million of those prisoners died while in imprisonment from being harshly treated by German officials.

The Treaty of Versailles

The Treaty of Versailles, also known as the peace treaty, was the agreement between Germany and the Allied Forces to end WWI. The only country that didn't sign was in fact the United States. However, Germany did not come to a conference discussing the war, many believed the war to be Germany's fault.
