How surveillance tech spies on my family via the devices we use in ways I was not aware of! Created by daniel khat

In many ways, household items and technology can be used as surveillance tech in our own homes without our knowledge. When people think of surveillance technology, they exclusively think of surveillance cameras. What people don't realize is that there is so much technology in our homes that can potentially spy on us. Essentially anything that has a microphone or camera is an invitation for hackers to potentially be able to spy on you.

Common household items that can be used as surveillance would include televisions. On average, most homes have at least one television. TV's are equipt with internet capabilities and also do many other things such as automatic content recognition which is a breach of privacy.

Kitchen appliances are another example of ways hackers can surveillance your own home. Things such as smart fridges have capabilities of causing risk within your home/

As many people know, webcams can be taken control of without your consent or knowledge. Viruses and malware can take control and record you. Hackers can also get access of your live footage which is a threat to your home.

A potential threat I would've never thought of would be smart bulbs. Last year a hacker was able to breach someone's technology through a smart bulb scandal that happened with Philips Hue smart lightbulb.

Smart speakers have the ability to listen to us and analyze what we are talking about. This is a complete breach of confidentiality and privacy. Examples of smart speakers would be SIRI, amazon alexa, google assistant, etc...

Specific voice controlled thermostats such as nest have raised privacy concerns for having built in microphones. To combat this issue, you can turn off voice control although it's great to be mindful and careful.

Laundry equipment like washers and dryers also have wifi capabilities similar to the smart TV. This can be a potential concern because hackers can access the inside of your home through your washing machines or dryers if not properly secured.

Modems and internet providers can have access to you information such as the websites you are browsing, which can potentially be breached.
