AUTUMN ART

Children in the Year 3 Art Club have produced some super autumnal artwork. They made some 'half & half' pictures - half is a photograph and they used chalks to create the other half. They also created some wonderful house silhouettes with crayons and watercolours.

DEMOCRACY IN ACTION

Yesterday, pupils from years 2 to 6 went to the polls to vote for their School Council representatives. Just like a real election, children cast their votes privately on ballot papers in a voting booth before posting them into the ballot boxes.

Votes are being counted and verified and the successful candidates will be announced in assemblies after half term.

A team of year 3 and 4 boys went to the East Riding Cross Country finals after qualifying at Delta. They all ran well with fantastic attitude and effort. Well done! Another runner from Year 3, Skye, went as an individual runner, after coming first at Delta. She also ran very well crossing the line with a smile on her face!

Amongst our guests we have the director of Waterscan; a renewable energy consultant; the Head of Business Excellence for Arriva trains; an environmental farmer; the senior policy advisor for the department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. CLEVER NEVER GOES

We will be running a new child safety initiative called ‘Clever Never Goes’ during the week beginning 31st October 2022.

The ‘Clever Never Goes’ programme has been developed to replace the out-dated ‘stranger danger’ approach. Research shows that teaching children simply to avoid strangers fails to keep them safe. Strangers are often more likely to help a child than to harm them. Conversely, it can often be people known to children that pose the greatest threat.

‘Clever Never Goes’ moves the focus away from strangers and instead teaches children to recognise when someone (whether they are known to the child or not) is trying to persuade them to go with them. The programme is designed to be fun and positive, whilst at the same time delivering a serious message and giving children practical safety skills and confidence to engage with the outside world.

In addition to the schools lesson you too can help your child to understand the Clever Never Goes message. You can download (free of charge) a Clever Never Goes home pack at the website www.clevernevergoes.org/parents. The home pack contains some great ideas for how to approach this topic with your children as well as games and activities. On the website, you can also see a series of cartoon sketches which are a good way of reinforcing the Clever Never Goes message and checking that your child has understand the key Clever Never Goes message. Please do make use of these resources.

If you have any further questions about the programme please do not hesitate to get in touch.
