Happy New Year!

We hope you all had a fun and relaxing break and that you and your families are safe and healthy! It’s hard to believe we are almost half-way through this school year. Take advantage of the remaining weeks of the quarter and semester to really finish strong!

Important Upcoming Dates & Events

Exam Week

This year, exams will take place during the week of January 17-20th. Once the final schedule is posted you can find it HERE (it will also be shared in school).

Exam week can be a time of stress and anxiety for many. It's important to focus on ways to balance yourself in preparation for this increase in academics. Here's some tips:

  1. Unplug from social media
  2. Focus on time management
  3. Sleep well
  4. Make time for exercise
  5. Practice breathing exercises
  6. Talk to someone

College Planning

Career Planning

The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard is hosting hiring events at The Holiday Inn in Portsmouth on Tuesday, January 3rd and Tuesday, February 7th (both events from 12pm-3pm). Email PTNH-JOBS@navy.mil if you have any questions.

Community Service Graduation Requirement

If you have not done so already, please submit your community service paperwork to your school counselor as soon as possible! See below for a link to opportunities if you still need hours. If you need a copy of the form, click here.

Future Plans

As you hear back from colleges you have been accepted to, please let your school counselor know! If you have other plans for after high school, we would love to share those as well! Please use this form to let us know (note: you can fill this out more than once, so every time you get an acceptance- be sure to share it with us!)

Spring Dual Enrollment Courses

If you are still interested in taking any dual enrollment classes through the University of Maine System there is still time to register! Classes will start on 1/17/23. Check out this website to explore any classes you might want to take. If you are interested, register for the class and your school counselor will be alerted and will finalize your enrollment.

Juniors

Summer Opportunity

HighTech Bound is a paid four to six-week summer program at The University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL) designed for students entering their senior year. The program provides an exciting opportunity for ambitious high school students, like you, to experience software development in a real-world environment. Application opens on 1/1/23. Application Deadline to apply: 2/27/23

Sophomores

There is a lot going on for sophomores in the upcoming weeks! School Counselors will be in to your advisories as soon as we return to tell you more! Here's a look ahead at some of the exciting opportunities this month!

  • January 25th- Sophomore Career Presentation
  • February 1st- SRTC Presentation & SRTC Applications open
  • February 14th- SRTC visit for interested sophomores (sign-ups and more information to follow)
Career Technical Programs

This is the time of year to start thinking about whether you might be interested in applying for a career technical program. The application for SRTC programs will be available on February 1st. Explore the SRTC website to find out more about their programs! Information on the Dover Animal Science program can be found at Dover CT.

More information about the application process for both SRTC and the Dover Animal Science program will be shared with all sophomores in January!

PSAT, SATs and MORE!

PSATs

  • Students who took the PSAT at MHS this fall have been provided their paper copy score reports during advisory.
  • IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE ACCESSING YOUR SCORES ONLINE you will need to contact CollegeBoard to troubleshoot. The number to call is 1-866-756-7346.

SATs

  • MHS will host a school day administration of the SAT for all interested Juniors on Wednesday, March 22nd.
  • Sign-ups will begin this month. Keep an eye on your email for the details on how to register.

Academic Resources

If you or your student is in need of help in any class and would like to work with a peer tutor, you may complete this form (note: this form can only be accessed by students)

Community Resources

The End 68 Hours of Hunger (E68) Program provides students within our school an opportunity to access a bag of nourishing food that will last them throughout the weekend. If you or your child is interested in receiving a bag of food on a weekly basis, please contact your child’s school counselor. The bag will then be placed in a convenient, private location in the building to be picked up. The option to have the bag delivered directly to your home each Friday is also available!

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you are interested in this opportunity. E68 is available for any student who would benefit, there are no restrictions.
