There are a number of things parents and carers can do for Oakfield to help more families find out about our wonderful school.

4. When you speak to other families let them know about Oakfield and the wonderful things the children are getting up to!
5. Keep reading our weekly newsletter and share it with your nearest, your dearest and complete strangers too!
6. Email me at bgolden@oakfield.dulwich.sch.uk about ideas or initiatives you have that the school could get involved with - maybe it's a local community event we could partner with, maybe it's information or activities you'd like to hear about the Prep side, maybe it's a wholly new platform for communicating with our parents. Whatever it is we'd love to hear it!

Note from our Head
Dear Oakfield families,
It has been a great pleasure to see many of you at the different online evening events we have run over the last couple of weeks. My colleagues and I enjoyed the opportunity to touch base with our families once again - something that has been sadly curtailed in recent months. I hope that you were able to learn more about life in the different phases of the school, along with information regarding the journey towards 11+ and the end of primary education, as well as the opportunities that we offer to our pupils in terms of their personal development.
We want our children to build character and the transferable skills that they will need for the next stages of their education and for the world of work to come. Seeing them develop leadership, collaborative and presentation skills through the various initiatives we follow such as Votes for Schools, the Rights Respecting Schools Award, Digital Leaders, Eco Warriors and School Council is both rewarding and inspiring.
Our Year 6 pupils derive huge benefit and enjoyment from our bespoke Oakfield Diploma which they undertake after the 11+ assessments. They learn a variety of life skills, have the opportunity to engage in Young Enterprise and community projects, understand more about possible future career choices and can also choose new curriculum areas to study such as Law, Environmental Studies and Media Studies, to name but a few.
After the year we have just experienced, it is so important to remain optimistic and ambitious for the future direction and success of Oakfield. Thank you to you all for your support and partnership in this.

ART
Calling all young artists!
This year, the Royal Academy of Art is once again hosting a Summer Exhibition for artists between the ages of 5 - 19 and Oakfield artists are welcome to take part.
The theme of your work is entirely up to you! Artworks can be made of any materials; anything from a painting, sculpture, photograph, installation or video piece. There is no theme so artworks can be of any subject.
Initially, a photo of your work will be sent in a pdf to the RA. Once there, all of the artworks are viewed and judged by a panel of artists and art professionals. There are two sets of judges, one for artworks made by primary students and one for secondary. Each panel consists of a Royal Academician, a member of Royal Academy staff and two Royal Academy Schools students. When the judges make their selections, they choose which artworks will be shown online and which will be shown at the Royal Academy.
The school will be notified of those artists whose work has been successfully chosen for the exhibition.
All work has to be submitted to the Royal Academy by Monday the 26th of April. Therefore, all artists wishing to take part must complete a permission form and return it, along with your submission, by Friday 23rd April.
Permission forms may be collected from the Prep School Art Room.
YEAR 4
Cater-pillar of the community
These are my caterpillars, they arrived at the beginning of March as tiny little specks. I have been waiting for them to turn into butterflies and have really enjoyed watching the process of them growing. They are now in their cocoons so I know it won't be long now.

YEAR 3
It's Shakespeare Week this week and Year 3 have immersed themselves into the world of Shakespeare!
We have read Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth and A Midsummer Night's Dream, as well as writing our own cinquain poem. We have taken a virtual tour of The Globe theatre and made up our own Shakespearian insults using traditional Shakespearian language. At the end of the week, we put on our own renditions of Romeo & Juliet and Macbeth and performed these in the outdoor playground theatre.
YEAR 2
This week Year 2 have been expanding their ICT skills in the computer room. We are becoming really confident at using the different applications on a PC and we are working on Powerpoint this week.
Year 2 were able to use the various fonts, styles and lettering. They have also begun to explore the wonders of animation. There was a lot of laughter as the children had pictures zooming and fading in!
The children are looking forward to what we can add next time.
UPPER FOUNDATION
Dear Parents/Carers,
This week we have been talking about the future of transportation! We have discussed our visions for how people will travel around by the time we are grownups and imagined future vehicles. We have described what they will look like, how fast they will move and how many passengers they will be able to carry. We have also learnt about the impact of car pollution on the environment and have tried to include features that make our future-transport more environmentally friendly.
In phonics this week, we have been learning the ‘ur’ sound. Please recap on all sounds learnt so far and practise writing words containing these. Continue to find familiar and unfamiliar words in your child’s environment and encourage them to have a go at reading for different purposes.
In Maths, we have been looking at 3D shapes and finding them in our environment. We have also talked about their characteristics and used the terms ‘faces’, ‘corners’, ‘edges’. We compared our 3D shapes with flat 2D shapes to help the children understand the difference.
LOWER FOUNDATION
Space Dress-Up Day
NURSERY
in Nursery last week, the children have been learning about PEOPLE WHO HELP US. This has been an amazing topic with lots to see and do. Here are a few pictures of the children dressed up as Firefighters and Police Officers.
The children also earned badges for being very helpful, just like the people who help us. Well done, Nursery superstars!
This week, the Nursery have been on a Spring Walk in Belair Park. There were so many interesting signs of Spring to spot. The ducks in the pond were a favourite.

FOOD BANK
Oliver in 2SD and his sister wanted to get rid of their old toys and have more space in their bedrooms. They offered them to neighbours and accepted donations when collecting the desinfected toys.
Part of the money they collected, went to their piggy bank and items for the local Food Bank. The same Food Bank OakfieLd has been donating items for years.
If you want to help the Food Bank, you are welcome to bring the following items to school next week, any weekday from 8:30am to 3:30pm.
- Tinned/ carton custard
- Tinned soup
- Tinned tomatoes
- Long-life fruit juice
- Bottles squash
- Laundry pods or tablets
- Washing up liquid

2nd Hand Uniform Donation
Dear Parents,
Please see the list below for the dates to donate any uniform to OAFS.
A member of the OAFS team will be in the lower school car park from 08:30-08:50am on the collection days.
Can we ask that any items you are donating are washed and in good condition with the labels removed.
Please do not send in any non-regulation uniform as we cannot sell it.
