Coach Todd Wojtkowski | Case Western Reserve University

The Wilson/ITA Coach of the Year honors a coach who has exhibited outstanding leadership in ways that contribute to on and off-court team performance.

Case Western's 2021 season was one for the record books. The Spartans finished in second place at the NCAA Team Championships -- the best ever finish for a program in the Case Western Athletic Department. Overall, the Spartans finished with a 14-3 record and only suffered one loss to a Division III program.

In the year-end rankings, Case Western finished second nationally and first in the Central Region. Individually, two singles players and one doubles team found themselves ranked nationally at the end of the season. This season Coach Wojtkowski guided two student-athletes - James Hopper and Matthew Chen - to ITA All-American honors.

A Note from Case Western Athletic Director, Amy Backus

Dear Todd,

It is with great pride that I congratulate you on being named the Wilson ITA Division III Men’s Coach of the Year. The accomplishments of the team under your leadership continue to cast a positive light on the athletic department and the University as a whole.

The team’s successes over the last few months have been unprecedented in the history of Case Western Reserve University. The team’s second-place finish at the 2021 NCAA Division III Championships, the best-ever by a Spartan varsity team, was a direct result of the values you have instilled in the squad – hard work, passion, and dedication.

The athletic accomplishments are impressive in their own right, but your team also excelled in the classroom, recording an incredible 3.883 grade point average during the 2020-21 year, the highest among CWRU teams during year.

Furthermore, to accomplish these feats while persevering through the challenges presented by a once-in-a generation pandemic is even more impressive.

While this award comes at the culmination of the most successful season ever by a team at Case Western Reserve, I know that under your leadership, the program is primed for continued success into the future. Congratulations again on this honor, which is both hard earned and well deserved.
