Lone Mountain Eagle Eye March 20, 2023

Lone Mountain Families,

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a restful and relaxing spring break. These last nine weeks will go by very quickly. Mark your calendars for March 30th from 5:30-7:00 PM. We will be hosting our STEAM night here at LMES and it has a solar system/space theme. This is a free event for our families that will showcase all components of STEAM- science, technology, engineering, art, and math. There will be interactive events and displays for the whole family to enjoy. Hope to see you there!

I wish you all a wonderful week. If I may help you or your child in any way please do not hesitate to reach out.

Respectfully, Emily Hill

LONE MOUNTAIN NEWS

"SOAR" EXPECTATIONS AT LONE MOUNTAIN

This year we continue with our positive behavior interventions and "SOAR" expectations for students to follow in the classroom and around campus. The acronym SOAR stands for Safety, Ownership for your actions/words, Attitude, and Respect. These are character traits that we talk about daily within the classrooms and around campus. When these specific traits are shown staff members can give each student a SOAR card that they label with their name and then drop into a raffle for a monthly prize drawing.

WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY- MARCH 21ST

This Tuesday is World Down Syndrome Day. The 21st day of March was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome which causes Down Syndrome. Every year on March 21, World Down Syndrome Day is observed to create awareness about Down syndrome.

To help raise awareness and celebrate our students with Down Syndrome please wear yellow and blue this Tuesday. Students are also encouraged to wear their wildest socks or mismatched socks on this day as well. The idea was created because chromosomes are shaped “like socks” and people with Down syndrome have an extra chromosome. Mismatched socks also symbolize that we are all different and that children should be themselves, accepting of one another and celebrate differences.

ARIZONA ACADEMIC STATE ASSESSMENT (AASA) AT LONE MOUNTAIN

Late March and April are the times of the year when our students participate in the Arizona state tests. We truly take great pride in these assessments as this is our opportunity to see what the students have learned and what we need to modify in our practices to ensure mastery. Finalized testing dates are below, but please check your classroom/grade level newsletters for specific testing dates for your child's classroom.

  • 3/27- 3/29 5th grade AZ Science test- 3 part test
  • 4/3-4/6- ASSA Writing for grades 3-6
  • 4/10-4/25 ASSA Reading for grades 3-6, ASSA ORF for 3rd grade

As we prepare for testing season here are some helpful tips that you can assist us with at home:

  • Ensure consistent attendance at school- on time, every day
  • Help find a quiet place for homework, studying, etc...
  • Maintain communication with your child's teachers
  • Sleep- Make sure that your child gets plenty of sleep
  • Breakfast- even though students can purchase breakfast here at school, please embed time in your morning routine for this

Finally, I recommend that you look at the practice questions and test items for AASA and AzSci on the testing platform using this link to access the practice tests for your child's grade. Please click on the line listed mic check and sample test. Then choose ASSA TestNAv Sample Tests or AZ Sci TestNav Sample Tests and the correct grade level. There is no sign in for the sample tests.
