Ding Dong Ditch! By Daniel Xu

Senior skip day has been an annual event since the very founding of Pinewood. While some graduating classes might take an easier route, there were a few groups that were much more ambitious.

“I remember there was this one time where the seniors just got together on the football field and just talked and played around while everyone else had classes,” Jackee Bruno, the Director of Diversity and Community, said.

Completely outside the school’s jurisdiction, the seniors are permitted to do whatever they want without the interference of school faculty and commitment to Pinewood policies.

“In all my 17 years at Pinewood, I never directed or interfered with any of the seniors' plans. It was completely up to them,” Bruno said.

Even though Bruno does not really know the full scope of what occurs on senior skip day, he has mentioned, albeit discreetly, some notable events.

“There were a few trips to the beach and even one to Great America, and most of them were near prom,” Bruno said.

Many people discussed what to wear and who they were going with, which senior Jaden Norwood, a Pinewood senior and class president, wishes to incorporate in this year’s skip day.

“We have decided to go for a beach day to just chill and talk about the banquet and prom,” Norwood said.

This event has evolved throughout the years as it became increasingly more of a tradition and something all seniors could look forward to. With their hopes held high, a few of the seniors shared their thoughts on the significance of skip day and what it represents to the graduating class.

“It really just shows that we are done with school,” senior Peyton Chui said.
