This past weekend marked round 5 of the Canadian Triple Crown Series which took place at Gopher Dunes in Courtland, ON. With Gopher being one of the toughest and roughest tracks in the series the boys knew they were in for a long day. Sam Gaynor would tough it out and double class in both Premix and MX2 classes. Gaynor would go 1-1 in Premix for 1st overall and 13-16 for 12th overall in MX2 on the MC125. TLD GasGas SSR MC250F pilot Tyler Gibbs would go 11-11 for 10th overall. In the MX1 class Christopher Blackmer would go 8-5 for 5th overall.
Premix:
With Sam Gaynor holding the red plate after going 1-1 at Walton 1 the team was excited to see Sam continue his winning momentum into Round 5.
Moto 1:
Moto 1 would see the #28 of Sam Gaynor get off to a rough 7th place start. Sam knew he would have to make some quick passes if he wanted to start battling with the top 3. By lap 3 he had made his way into 3rd position and set his eyes on the leaders. On the 5th lap of the moto Sam would make a pass on Brandon Gourlay for 2nd position. Gaynor would then put his head down and start to push for the leader Jack Wright. As the white flag came out Sam would capitalize on a mistake made by Wright and move into the lead where he would take the win for moto 2.
Moto 2:
Moto 2 would see Gaynor get off to a 3rd place start. He would quickly get himself into 1st after 2 laps. After getting out front, Sam would ride out the rest of the moto consistently, crossing the checkers in 1st.
Gaynor would go 1-1 at Gopher Dunes and keep the red plate on the TLD GasGas SSR MC125 going into San Del Lee for Round 6.
MX2:
Sam Gaynor would join teammate Tyler Gibbs in the MX2 class at Round 5. Both of the boys pushed hard all day on the rough and bottomless Gopher Dunes track.
Moto 1:
Moto 1 would see Gibbs get off to a 10th place start where he would stay for the next 4 laps. A small bobble from Gibbs on lap 5 would cause the #22 machine to move back to 14th. Over the next few laps, Gibbs would push hard to move up to 11th. Gibbs would finish the first moto in 11th. Sam Gaynor would get off to a 19th place start while battling against the 250F’s on his MC125. Sam would charge hard and make up 6 positions on the field of riders to put himself into 13th. Battling hard with other riders, He would lose and regain his position over the next few laps. On lap 10, Sam would move back into 13th where he would ride out the rest of the moto to the checkers.
Moto 2:
With the Gopher Dunes track getting rougher and tougher to ride the boys knew they were going to have to dig deep for the second MX2 moto of the day. Moto 2 would see Tyler Gibbs get off to an 11th place start. Gibbs would battle hard lap after lap where he would fall back a few positions after a couple small mistakes. Riding consistently, Gibbs would push during the final laps of the moto to move back into 11th where he would cross the checkers. Sam Gaynor would get off to a 19th place start and knew he had to put his head down to make up some positions. He would battle hard the entire moto to gain some positions on the field. Sam would move up into 16th as the 2 lap board came out and would cross the checkers 16th in moto 2.
MX1:
TLD GasGas SSR MC450F pilot Christopher Blackmer was excited to finally get to race the Gopher Dunes track. Blackmer, an experienced sand rider coming from Michigan was ready to show off his talents of racing in the sand and prepared himself for a long and grueling day at the Dunes.
Moto 1:
Moto 1 would see Chris get off to a great 4th place start. He would push hard, trying to find a flow but would fall back to 7th place by lap 4. On lap 10 Chris would fall back another position where he sat in 8th. Riding his own race he would cross the checkers in 8th for moto 1.
Moto 2:
After taking the time to find a solid flow on the extremely rough Gopher Dunes track, Blackmer would pull off a great holeshot in moto 2. By lap 3 he would fall to 5th position. Pushing hard, lap after lap, Chris would put in a consistent ride where he would dig deep to cross the checkers in 5th.
