Over 18 million children are on the streets. How are they there?
How do they suffer on the streets?
They are neglected and live an invisible life. They are homeless with no roots, identity, security, care or protection. Out of one billion people in India, 30% are children living either as squatters, refugees or rural migrants in temporary shelters on the streets or in slums in major cities.
What is Rainbow Homes?
Rainbow Homes is an innovative program which provides non-custodial, comprehensive care for vulnerable children from street situations and extreme vulnerabilities. The program aims to integrate them into regular schools and helps to put them on an equal footing with other children their own age.
Rainbow Homes Program is an umbrella approach under two entities - Association for Rural and Urban Needy (ARUN) & Rainbow Foundation India (RFI). Through, Rainbow Homes for girls,Sneh Ghars for boys (sneh meaning affection, ghar meaning home), residential hostels, community based care in the form of Rainbow Community Care and group living we ensure access to the child's basic rights. This program was designed keeping in mind the unique needs and rights of these children as envisaged under United Nations' Conventions on rights of children (UNCRC) and the covers guidelines for institutional care of children as per the Juvenile Justice Act (care and protection) 2015.
