Thesis: There is no question Muckrakers saved the country from its corrupt leaders with the knowledge and influence that they had. Particular ones like Thomas Nast, Lincoln Steffens and Chester Arthur all did whatever it took to find and expose the truth.

Thomas Nast

- Thomas Nast used his influence as a political caroonist to expose corrupt politicians with political cartoons exposing the things politicians did behind closed doors

- Thomas Nast exposed Tammany Hall with cartoons like the Tammany tiger. (his most famous cartoon)

Lincoln Steffens exposed the system of boss politics in a novel he wrote called "The Shame of Cities" In a separate novel Lincoln Steffens exposed how difficult it was to get by in the ghetto Lincoln Steffens wrote novels about topics he is passionate about as a result his opinions were heard

Chester Arthur

Chester Arthur passed the pendleton act stopping the spoils system completely

Before becoming president Chester Arthur had a reputation as a corrupt politician

The spoils system was pretty much high political positions being awarded to people to pay off debts and for reweards

There is question these particular Muckrakers saved the country from its corrupt leaders with the knowledge and influence that they had whether it be as a cartoonist, writer or even as president. These men stopped political corruption all in their own way because to them the truth was important,
