Galley Hill Primary School Newsletter 2nd October 2020

Another fantastic week in school. There have been some wonderful things happening as well as saying farewell and goodbye to two members of staff. October is Black History Month and will be the main focus of Assemblies this month.

Goodbye

Today is the last day for Mrs Spencer and Mrs Askey. They have both been with the school for many years, almost 20 years each. They may have been in school whilst some of you were here, and were here to teach some of the staff we have today. They have been a central and important part of the school community for so many years, ensuring that children achieved their potential, looking after them when they fell over and even making sure that staff were ok as well. They will be missed around school and the door is always open for them to come back and say hello to us all again whenever they are free. They are both moving into the world of retirement, so I am sure that they will be busier than they ever have been before. We wish them both every happiness in their retirement and thank them for everything that they have done for and at Galley Hill.

School life

In Reception this week they have started to talk about jobs people have in the local community. It would be wonderful if parents could talk to the children about their own jobs. In maths, they have been working with the number five and using a five frame. The children have also enjoyed building in the block area and practising their phonics. This week they are sending home some words to read and write.

Year 1 and 1/2 have been busy in their areas this week constructing and have been busy in their cafe!

A huge thank you to Morrisons Guisborough for their Healthy Eating hamper donation. Year 6 enjoyed this as part of their learning in French linked to fruit and vegetables. It certainly got the children thinking about healthy food choices.

There is also a note about admissions for secondary school. The deadline is 31st October 2020. Parents are asked to apply online, if possible. If you have any difficulty with this, please contact the school admissions team on 01642 837730 / 837740 / 837702.

Request from reception

If any one has any old tyres Reception would like them. They are wanting to create a planting space around the pond and around Foundation Stage playground where they are going to plant some bulbs. If you have any, please could you contact the school office. Thank you.

Class Logo

Next week a logo template sheet is going home as we begin the process of creating a logo for each class. This logo will be on social media and all correspondence for each class. Get your creative ideas flowing and we look forward to seeing all the wonderful ideas come back by next Friday 9th October. We are hoping to create a logo for each class based around some of the ideas that come in for each year group.
