Content Info For The Week

Math (Carver, Beasley, and Meeks):

We will continue working with slope, linear functions, and graphing. Students will explore using similar triangles to determine the slope of a graph and proportional/non-proportional relationships.

Thursday they will have a quiz over slope and proportional/non-proportional relationships.

No homework this week.

Algebra I (Meeks):

Students will continue working system of equations and system of inequalities with word problems on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday students will move into function notation. They will calculate a range given a specific domain. Thursday and Friday they will review and complete task cards to do a final review of functions for unit 2.

No homework this week.

Read 180 (Styron and Barker):

This week in R180 students will analyze what is clearly stated in the text and infer what is not clearly stated, determine a story’s theme and analyze how it is conveyed through text details, deepen understanding of meaning by relating words to their synonyms and antonyms, plan, organize, and write a literary analysis that includes evidence and direct quotations, and lastly complete the workshop 9 vocab and interim assessment to demonstrate knowledge learned throughout the workshop to this point.

ELA (MacArthur and Lee):

This week in Mr. MacArthur’s class, students will begin working on their first novel of the new semester, Hidden Figures. Students will read to identify key elements of figurative language, as well as the authors writing style.

This week in Mrs. Lee's class, we will begin reading our next in-class book, Hidden Figures. This is a departure from previous novel studies, as Hidden Figures is a work of non-fiction. Students will analyze the text for examples of historical context, direct/indirect characterization, text structure, and author's purpose.

9th Grade Lit (Lee):

This week, students will continue reading To Kill a Mockingbird. We will take a close look at the final verdict of Tom Robinson's case, including evidence from the text that shows foreshadowing of the verdict. Students will examine the text for evidence that our narrator, Scout, has shown growth since the beginning of the trial. We will continue to examine the text for developing themes, indirect/direct characterization, and other plot elements.

Science (Winkworth and Herndon):

The students will develop the understanding of Electromagnetic Waves and their practical applications. Students will learn all the parts of the Electromagnetic Spectrum, their wavelengths, wave frequencies, and energy associated with those parts. They will research and develop an understanding of the different devices that use each part of the Electromagnetic Spectrum to affect their lives on a daily basis.

Social Studies (MacArthur and Collier):

The Georgia Studies crew spent last week examining the Great Depression and the beginnings of WWII. As we move forward this week we will look at the end of WWII, Georgia’s impact on the war, and the post war economic changes to Georgia.

Look what we have been up to!
