Tom Neale, Castaway by Choice. BY Bekah and ryan

Tom Neale wanted to live far away from society. Tom lived on the island Suwarrow Atoll for 16 years. He met a man named Frisbie who convinced him to live alone on the island.

Survival and Cuisine

Tom survived by eating coconuts, fish, and for shelter he built a small hut from resources around him and things he brought back and forth. He fished with a handmade spear with a forged tip. Tom pierced holes in the coconuts with a metal rod buried into the sand.

Cuisine (cont.)

Tom weaved coconut palm leaves together in order to fabricate a roof for his hut and also sometimes ate seabird eggs, lobsters, and even had his own garden.

Suwarrow Atoll

The island's name is suwarrow atoll. IT is located in the cook island chain in the south pacific ocean. on suwarrow atoll, there is many plants and jungle life.There also happens to be coconut palm trees and lots of vines.

TOM NEALE

Tom Neale has a book titled, An Island To Oneself. Neale has come to be known as "The Hermit of Suwarrow." He lived on the island because it made him feel free. Tom sadly died in 1977 when he died of stomach cancer.
