The children created poppies using their hand prints. On the 11th November at 11am we observed a 2 minutes silence by watching 'Poppies' on Cbeebies.
Alongside learning new rhymes the children engaged in activities linked to each rhyme. They developed their fine motor skills by threading bobbins, drew around and named different parts of their bodies, and even created a new web for Incey Wincey spider.
Who was this creature and where did it go? The children searched the Nursery with magnifying glasses and found lots of clues.
The children thought that it was the Gingerbread man because there were lots of flour footprints and crumbs on the floor, but he was still missing. Have you seen him?
In maths we have been counting using 1:1 correspondence and matching amounts to the correct numeral.
Showing the school value 'Kindness', we participated in the Rudolph run and raised money for Barnsley Hospice.
After Christmas we look forward to welcoming new children into our Nursery. We know that the older children will be excellent role models when helping the new starters settle into class.
Physical development
Children will continue to develop a comfortable grip with good control when using pens and pencils.
We will encourage children to be as independent as possible when putting on their own coats and zipping them up.
Through ring games children will be increasingly able to use and remember sequences and patterns of movements which are related to music and rhythm.
Using outdoor equipment children will develop the ability to match their physical skills to a range of tasks and activities. For example, they decide whether to crawl, walk or run across a plank, depending on its length and width.
Mathematics
Over the next half term the children will be continuing to master the skill of counting out amounts accurately.
They will be developing and widening their mathematical language by comparing different amounts using the language 'more than' and 'fewer than'.
After reading the stories 'The three little pigs', 'Little Red Riding hood' and 'Little Red and the very hungry lion' the children will be describing familiar routes using language such as in front of and behind.
Over the past term children in nursery have enjoyed sharing their family scrapbooks with each other and retelling personal special events. Next half term this will be extended by developing positive attitudes towards the differences between people. We will explore different countries and cultures that exist around the world.
Here are some stories that we will enjoy reading together:
