On Friday April 14th, the Mammoths kicked off the weekend of competition at the Carla Coffey Invitational at Smith College for the multi events and a few field events while the long distance runners competed at the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College. On Saturday, April 15th, all of the Mammoths competed at the Carla Coffey Invitational! The Mammoths took advantage of good weather conditions to compete well across both days of competition!

Heptathlon
The action kicked off in the Heptathlon and Decathlon at Smith on Saturday, where Anaya Thomas got the Heptathlon started with the 100 Hurdles, where she placed fourth in a time of 16.31 seconds. Then in the high jump, she cleared 1.56 meters (5’ 1.25”) to place third, a jump only two centimeters off her personal best in the event! Then in the shot put, she threw 7.74 meters (25’ 4.75”) and capped off the day with a nice race in the 200, placing tenth in a time of 30.17 seconds!
Decathlon
The Decathlon kicked with the 100 meter dash, where all three Mammoths set personal bests! Jack Trent placed fourth in a personal best time of 11.49 seconds, Zach Villegas ran a personal best time of 11.78 seconds and Alex Robin placed tenth in a personal best time of 12.36 seconds! Next in the long jump, Jack placed second in a personal best jump of 6.48 meters (21’ 3.25”) and Zach placed fourth with a season best jump of 6.09 meters (19’ 11.75”) and Alex placed ninth with a personal beset jump of 5.57 meters (18’ 3.25”)! Jack won the Shot Put, winning with a throw of 12.35 meters (40’ 6.25”)! Zach set a personal best with a throw of 10.55 meters (34’ 7.5”) and Alex threw well, throwing a mark of 8.86 meters (29’ 1”). Alex Robin then won the High Jump, winning with a personal best jump of 1.91 meters (6’ 3.25”)! Jack set a personal best, jumping 1.85 meters (6’ 0.75”) to place third and Zach cleared 1.58 meters (5’ 2.25”). They finished out the day with the 400 meter dash, where Jack placed third in a personal best time of 51.52 seconds! Zach and Alex placed eighth and ninth running times of 55.49 and 55.89 seconds, respectively, which is a personal best time for Alex!
Hammer Throw
In the Men’s Hammer, Charlie Spurrell placed second with a throw of 47.97 meters (157’ 4”)! Jack Renda placed ninth with a personal best throw of 40.35 meters (132’ 4”)! David Brown placed twelfth with a throw of 37.42 meters (122’ 9”) and Hugh Lemmon-Kishi set a personal best to place fifteenth, throwing 36.86 meters (120’ 11’)!
In the Women’s Hammer, Beth Martin placed seventh with a throw of 36.59 meters (120’ 0”) and Deb Thayer placed eighth with a throw of 36.42 meters (119’ 6”)!
Javelin
The Mammoths enjoyed a great day in the Women’s Javelin, where Morgan Rome and Carolina Andrade placed second and third, respectively! Morgan saved her best throw for last, throwing 35.52 meters (116’ 6”) and Carolina’s fourth throw was her best with a throw of 35.22 meters (115’ 7”)! Annelise Romero and Payton Sorensen both set personal bests, as Annelise threw 31.63 meters (103’ 9”) to place sixth and Payton threw 23.06 meters (75’ 8”) to place ninth!
In the Men’s Javelin, Max Spelke needed just one throw to place seventh, throwing 43.12 meters (141’ 6”)!
Pole Vault
Mia Bawendi placed second in the pole vault, clearing 3.40 meters (11' 1.75"), clearing the bar at that height on her first attempt! Payton Sorensen had a nice day, clearing 3.10 meters (10' 2")!

5,000
Over at Connecticut College, the first event of the night for the Mammoths was the Women’s 5k. Mary Kate McGranahan followed the race plan to perfection, purposefully sitting behind the race leaders for the first mile of the race. She took the lead one mile into the race and never relinquished it, running a fast final mile of the race to win in a time of 17:31!
10,000
The next race was the Men’s 10K, where George Cahill, Luke Munch and Daniel Martin all toed the line. The three of them worked together in the first X laps of the race before George and Luke separated from Daniel. As the race continued, all three runners moved up in the field, passing runners throughout the race. George, running in his first 10k, pushed the pace with 3 laps to go and ran hard all the way to the finish line, placing sixth in a great time of 31:31! Luke placed seventh in a personal best time of 31:40, a personal best by more than one full minute! Daniel clicked off consistent laps and placed sixteenth in a time of 32:42, a personal best by more than one minute!
Allison Lounsbury and Claire Callon both competed in the 10,000 for the first time and both ran the race well, as the two patiently worked up the field during the race. Allison ran a fantastic second half of the race, passing several runners, including passing a competitor on the final lap to place fifth in a time of 37:32! Claire ran a strong second half of the race, placing ninth in a time of 38:49!

The action restarted on Saturday morning in the multi events, where Anaya Thomas placed fourth in the long jump with a personal best jump of 4.87 meters (15’ 11.75”! She then threw 14.53 meters (47’ 8”) and finished out her first Heptathlon ever by placing ninth in a time of 2:49. With her points from each event added up, she placed sixth with a score of 3,395 points in her first multi event
!In the Decathlon, the action restarted in the 110 Hurdles, where Jack Trent, Zach Villegas and Alex Robin all set personal bests! Jack ran time of 15.60 seconds, Zach ran a in time of 18.02 and Alex ran a time of 18.53 seconds. Jack won the Discus, throwing a mark of 36.99 meters (121’ 4”) to set a personal best and Zach and Alex placed ninth and tenth with marks of 27.47 meters (90’ 1”) and 24.03 meters (78’’ 10”). Alex Robin won the Pole Vault, clearing 4.10 meters (13’5.25”)! Jack placed fifth, clearing 3.60 meters (11’ 9.75”) and Zach placed seventh, clearing 3.20 meters (10’ 6”)! The Javelin was a strong event for the Mammoths, as Alex placed third with a huge throw of 42.35 meters (138’ 11”) in his first time competing in the event and Jack placed fourth with a throw of 40.94 meters (134’ 4”) and Zach placed ninth with a personal best throw of 34.73 meters (113’ 11”). The final event was the 1500, where Jack placed third in a ten second personal best, running a time of 4:43! Zach and Alex worked together, placing seventh and eighth in times of 5:08 and 5:10, respectively.
With the final points tallied, Jack placed second in a HUGE personal best score of 6,500 points, which improves upon his position as Third All-Time at Amherst in the event! Alex placed sixth with a score of 5,226 points, a great first Decathlon and Zach placed seventh with a throw of 5.063 points!

4x100 Relay
The first event on the track of the day was the Women's 4x100 Relay, where the team of Mia Bawendi, Arissa McGowan, Anastasia Ioppolo and Eliza Cardwell combined to place fourth in a strong time of 48.62 seconds!
1,500
The next event was the 1,500, where Julia Schor used a big push with a lap to go to propel her to a fourth place finish in a season best time of 4:40! Sylvan Wold placed eighth in a strong race in a time of 4:46 and Ally Deegan had a fantastic kick and passed a runner on the final lap to run a season best time of 4:50! Julia Gentin ran a great race in the next heat of the 1,500, passing runners each lap and placed ninth in her heat in a time of 5:11!
In the Men's 1,500, Ian Dopp ran a great race, moving his way up the field during the race to place sixth in a personal best time of 4:02! Oliver Spiva placed eighth in a personal best time of 4:03 right behind him and Nick Edwards-Levin ran hard, finishing tenth in a time of 4:07. In the next heat, Paolo Canigiula placed third in his heat in a personal best time of 4:17 and Emmett McGrath placed fifth in the heat in a time of 4:24.
110 & 100 Hurdles
In the 110 Hurdles, Alton Machen placed fifth in a season best time of 15.70 seconds and Noah Harris placed seventh in a time of 15.93 seconds. Eliza Cardwell won the 100 Hurdles by nearly half a second, winning in a time of 14.66 seconds! Arissa McGowan placed fourth in a time of 15.64 seconds, Anastasia Ioppolo placed sixth in a time of 16.00 seconds and Trintje Nydam set a personal best with a time of 16.20 seconds to place seventh! Olivia Steele placed tenth in a time of 17.33 seconds as part of the Mammoths deep hurdles squad.

Shot Put
David Brown won the shot put with a huge personal best throw of 14.41 meters (47' 3.5"), saving his best throw for his last of the day! Hugh Lemmon-Kishi had a strong day, throwing 12.45 meters (40' 10.25") on two throws and Temidayo Bambe placed twenty third throwing 9.31 meters (30' 6.5").
In the Women's Shot Put, Morgan Rome threw a season best's with a mark of 10.11 meters (33' 2") to place seventh, just ahead of Beth Martin who threw a season best as well, throwing 9.73 meters (31' 11.25") to place ninth! Deb Thayer also enjoyed a season's best, throwing a mark of 9.30 meters (30' 6.25"), placing thirteenth!
High Jump
Gabe Dos Santos enjoyed a great day in the high jump, clearing 1.93 meters (6' 4") to place third in a strong field and Cam Heafitz placed fourth, clearing 1.88 meters (6' 2")!

Cody Pierce won his heat of the 400 and placed second overall in a stellar time of 49.41 seconds, leading a strong Mammoth contingent in the event! Jack O'Hara placed fourth overall in a time of 50.08 seconds and Jai Dreher placed eighth in a collegiate best time of 50.98 seconds! Charlie Clary ran a strong race, placing eleventh in a time of 52.16 seconds.
Casie Eifrig ran a great race in the 400, using a strong final 200 meters of the race to run a personal best time of 58.70 seconds to place third! Mads Rabb broke the 60 second barrier for the first time, running a time of 59.97 seconds to place tenth overall and Halle Hanna placed twelfth overall in a collegiate best time of 1:00.27! Caroline Wu ran a strong race, placing eighteenth overall in a time of 1:03.40.
Jordan Harrison won the 100 in a time of 10.79 seconds, once again tying the school record in the event! Ben Bell placed seventh in a time of 11.25 seconds, tying his season best time! Theo Woodward and Ben Williams both ran well, running times of 11.97 seconds and 12.05 seconds, respectively.
In the Women's 100, Mia Bawendi ran a season best time of 13.06 seconds to place ninth! Amerley Lokko made her season debut, running a time of 13.18 seconds to place twelfth!

Discus
Hugh Lemmon-Kishi threw a season best mark in the Discus, throwing 35.25 meters (115' 8") and David Brown threw a mark of 34.10 meters (111' 10"). Temidayo Bambe set a personal best with a throw of 28.12 meters (92' 3")!
Deb Thayer placed second in the discus with a great throw of 34.61 meters (113' 6")! Beth placed seventh with a throw of 30.92 meters (101' 5") and in only her second time competing in the event, Morgan Rome placed seventh with a throw of 30.19 meters (99' 0")!
Long Jump
Adrian Friedman won the long jump with a huge personal best jump of 6.96m (22' 10") on his last jump of the day! Yeob Kim made his season debut, placing third with a jump of 6.76m (22' 2.25"), a great start to his season! Eliza Cardwell placed second with a fantastic jump of 5.51 meters (18' 1") on her first jump and Anastasia Ioppolo placed sixth with a jump of 5.09m (16' 8.5")!
Triple Jump
Gabe Dos Santos placed second in the Triple Jump with a jump of 12.92m (42' 4.75")! Adrian Friedman placed sixth with a jump of 12.18m (39' 11.5") to cap off a great day. In the Women's Triple Jump, Olivia Steele enjoyed a collegiate best jump of 10.50m (34' 5.5") to place seventh! Morgan Rome competed in the event for the first time and placed ninth with a jump of 9.51m (31' 2.5")!

The 800 was a great event for the Mammoths and the women raced first. Margo lead the race with one lap to go and powered to the finish line, winning in a big personal best time of 2:14! Bella Lozier placed third in a great race, running a collegiate best time of 2:18! Piper Lentz placed fourth in a personal best time of 2:18! Ava Zielinski kicked hard in the last 200 meters and ran a season best time of 2:21! Susannah Auderset ran a strong race in her heat and ran a collegiate best time of 2:28!
In the first heat of the Men's 800, Kolya Markov-Riss took out the pace hard and the entire field followed him as teammates Wilson Spurrell, Will Nagy, Ben Davis and Braedon Fiume all competed in the same heat. In the final 200 meters of the race Wilson kicked hard, crossing the finish line in a big personal best time of 1:53 to place fourth! Kolya also ran 1:53, placing fifth! Ben Davis and Will Nagy both ran times of 1:53, only separated by 0.05 seconds and the two both set personal bests to place sixth and seventh, respectively! Braedon Fiume placed ninth in the heat in a personal best time of 1:55! In the next heat, Lev Robertson and Aydin Williams both got out well and ran strong in the last lap of the race, as Lev ran a personal best time of 1:56 to place fourth in the heat and Aydin ran a personal best time of 1:58 to place eighth in the heat!
400 Hurdles
Eliza Cardwell ran a stellar race in the 400 Hurdles, winning in a time of 1:01.68 which makes her Second All-Time at Amherst in the event! Trintje Nydam ran a strong race in the same heat, placing seventh in a season best time of 1:06! Valerie Finke placed ninth overall and second in her heat in a time of 1:09, a big season best time! Artis Phillips ran a strong race as well, running a time of 1:09 to place eleventh overall and fourth in her heat!
In the Men's 400 Hurdles, Ellis Phillips-Gallucci placed second in a fantastic race, running a season best time of 54.18 seconds! Noah Harris placed ninth overall in a personal best time of 57.98 seconds! Tom Ye and Max Spelke both ran strong races, running times of 58.86 seconds and 59.74 seconds, respectively!
200
Ben Bell led the 200 for the Mammoths, placing seventh in a time of 23.08 seconds! Matt Gelin and Theo Woodward both ran strong races, running times of 24.35 and 24.40 seconds, respectively!

The Women's 5,000 was next on the track and Daphne Theiler pushed the pace up front and placed second in a time of 18:12! Sophia Price competed well in her first 5k on the track and ran a strong time of 18:19 to place fourth! Nora Bannon ran a patient race and passed runners during the race to run a personal best time of 18:44 to place tenth!
In the Men's 5k, Henry Dennen ran with a student pacing the race for the first 5 laps of the race and then pulled away from the field, winning by 22 seconds in a time of 14:32! This places him Third at Amherst All-Time in the event! Will Merhige ran a strong race, running a personal best time of 15:20 to place eighth! Theo Dassin placed tenth in a season best time of 15:23! In an earlier section of the 5k, Thomas Stephens pushed the pace and ran a personal best time of 15:27!

4x400 Relay
The last event on the track was the 4x400 relay and with the threat of an incoming storm, the Mammoths were ready to run fast!
Mads Rabb led off the Women's 'A' team, getting the Mammoths off to a great start! She handed the baton to Casie Eifrig, who ran a strong leg to put the Mammoths in the lead! Halle Hanna got the baton for the third leg and kept the Mammoths at the front, handing off to Piper Lentz tied with the leaders. Piper ran a strong leg to bring the Mammoths across the line in a season best time of 3:59 in second place! Bella Lozier led off the 'B' team and got the Mammoths out well and handed off to Ava Zielinski for the second leg. Ava ran a strong leg and passed the baton to Caroline Wu who also ran a strong leg, and Susannah Auderset anchored the Mammoths to a fourth place finish in a time of 4:11!
Tom Ye led off the Mammoths 'A' team and got the Mammoths out well, handing off to Ellis Phillips-Gallucci right in contention with the race leaders. Ellis ran a great leg to put the Mammoths in second place going into the handoff to Jai Dreher. Jai ran a fantastic leg, bringing the Mammoths even closer to the race leaders and Ben Davis ran hard all the way around the track, bringing the Mammoths across the line in a season best time of 3:20 and a second place finish! Will Nagy led off the Mammoths 'B' team and ran well to hand off to Charlie Clary in a good position. Charlie ran a strong leg and handed the baton to Braedon Fiume, who ran well. Lev Robertson anchored for the Mammoths, running his best 400 ever to help the Mammoths place fifth in a time of 3:27!
The Mammoths competed well during both days of competition and cheered on each other with tons of heart to propel their teammates forward. We are so grateful for everyone who supported the Mammoths in person and from afar!
